Vehicle Detail

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate This 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate is an example of one of the best years of the Graduate model run and represents a bygone era of Italian Sports cars that will never be seen again… The condition of this car is very nice and very well presented. The car shows very few signs of age and shows 59,700 original miles on the odometer. Car has a clean Carfax with no accidents or odometer roll backs. I pulled the Carfax when I bought this car and there were 2 previous owners, I am the 3rd. Vehicle is listed as having a duplicate title. Previous owner went to sell the car in 2004 and could not locate the title after a move. He had the DMV issue a new (or duplicate) title for the car. Title is clean and the Carfax I ran in 2004 was clean. I did not see any issue with this and have not had any issue with it. I have had the title in hand since 2004 when I bought the car. If you have done your research, then you will know that the Graduate model comes with a vinyl top, vinyl seats, steel wheels as standard equipment for the base model. The previous owner restored this vehicle to Veloce standards. A fabric top was installed in place of the cheaper vinyl top, front seats were recovered in black LEATHER, and the correct Veloce alloy wheels were refinished with new Bridgestone tires. The vehicle was repainted in the factory color and new carpet was installed. BODY: This Alfa has been repainted in the original Alfa Red AR530 paint. All of the body panels are rust free and very nice and have never had any sort of accident damage to my knowledge. The paint is in very good overall condition, and is very shiny. It is evident that a high quality paint job was done. The glass and seals are in excellent condition. The windshield is clear from scratches or chips. The door glass is in great shape. Bumpers and trim are all in great shape. I have removed the 2 badges from the rear spoiler but I will include them in the box of extra parts I have. I like the smooth all black look of them removed from the spoiler, but they can be snapped back in place easily. INTERIOR: The interior is trimmed in the correct black LEATHER interior. The seating areas are in EXCELLENT condition. The door panels, dashboard, and console are in very nice original condition as is the carpet. The interior has a wonderful leather smell that reminds me of my dad’s Porsche. I could sit in there and smell for hours! All of the accessories are in working order. The power mirrors work, the rear fogs work, dash gauges work. Car has a Kenwood CD radio currently installed along with 6 ½” speakers in the kick panels. There are speaker wires run to the rear parcel shelf that I never hooked up. Odometer works however the button to reset the trip counter is missing. I typically used a small pointer to reset the counter. All of the windows as well as the door locks and trunk release work. The trunk is in very nice condition, and the trunk carpeting is also in very nice original condition with no rips, tears, or missing pieces. A 5th alloy wheel was purchased, refinished and a matching tire was installed for the spare. It is in brand new, never used condition. The car has A/C but when I bought it, the A/C belt had been removed. I never took the time to reinstall it as it is a convertible, so I do not know if it runs or not. Fan and Heater both work. CONVERTIBLE TOP: As I said earlier, the factory vinyl top was replaced with a much nicer fabric top. It fits very well and looks great. The rear window is clear and has no damage. A huge improvement over the original vinyl top that came on the car. Top was purchased from International Auto by the previous owner. Also comes with a HARD-TOP – It is a Smooth Line (Parrish Plastics) like from International Auto Parts. Top is $1200 new. Top is in okay condition. Would need some cleaning up and the rear window polished to look good. I have had it stored in my basement ever since I got the car. The end of the auction shows the top stored in my basement as well as a sample pic from Smooth Line of what it looks like. It is felt lined and could be nice all cleaned up. UNDERCARRIAGE: The underside of the car is very straight. At the time of the paint job, the underside was cleared of any rust and painted. There is a little evidence that some patch pieces were used to remove any rust. These are very solid and do not show any signs of thick filler. The rear spare tire well shows this – again, a metal patch panel was used to fill the rusted area and strenghten it. Some filler was used around the panel as it is not perfectly smooth - but it is a spare tire well so no big deal. The entire area was painted with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator to prevent any future rust. ENGINE and ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine in this Alfa is the original 2 liter 4-cylinder engine. It needs nothing. The valve cover was just recently powdercoated and looks amazing. A new valve cover gasket was installed. Magnecor wires, new plugs, rotor and distributor cap have been installed. Miscellaneous hoses were replaced. The entire exhaust system has been replaced with a custom fully stainless steel Magnaflow kit from the Alfa Bulliten Board. This includes 1974 Alfa exhaust manifolds that have been professionally Jet Hot Ceramic coated. Magnaflow downpipe with stainless steel oxygen sensor bung welded in place. Stainless steel 2.25” pipe throughout and Magnaflow stainless mufflers in the center and rear. Finished off with a stainless steel polished exhaust tip. Very nice throaty sound. Not too loud and not too “ricey”…just right. TIRES AND WHEELS: The tires are in brand new Bridgestone Potenza G009s. I have these on my wife’s 325i and we love them. Plenty of grip and good in the rain (not that the Alfa sees rain!). The wheels are original 14” Alfa alloy wheels that have been blasted and refinished with the correct center caps. These wheels made the car look amazing as opposed to the original steel wheels that just look plain and very un-Ferrari! In fact, when I went to take the wheels to be mounted to the tires…the tech thought they were for a Ferrari! TRANSMISSION: The 5-speed transmission shifts well overall. It does have the typical 2nd gear syncro issue. I replaced the fluid with Redline and it does very well. As long as you do not power shift into 2nd, you have no issues. A slight pause as you go into 2nd and it slides in smoothly. Recently Replaced: Distributor Cap and Rotor Flywheel Sensor Clutch Slave Cylinder Trunk Release Cable Valve Cover gasket Plugs and Wires Rebuilt all 4 brake calipers New rear suspension limiting straps Redline Transmission and Diff fluid New tires and refinished wheels Jet Hot coated 1974 exhaust manifold New oxygen sensor and New exhaust including gaskets, hangers and manifold gaskets.
