Vehicle Detail
I am offering for sale my 1964 Triumph TR-4 roadster finished in signal red. This vehicle is being sold to the highest bidder without a reserve. It has the standard 4 cylinder engine with dual Zenith-Stromberg twin carburetors that are correct for this year TR-4. It has a 4 speed fully synchronized transmission without overdrive. The car starts quickly and has plenty of power. Recently issued clear title in hand, no liens. The GOOD: Wire wheels with new tires, rim strip rim bands and tubes and new chrome two eared knock-offs with new spindles and a new knock-off hammer and matching spare tire. NEW seat covers, carpeting, door panels, rear interior panel and trunk panel, equipped with two point seat belts and a new Triumph shift knob. NEW tie rod ends, ball joints and trunnions in the front suspension. Rubber boots and clamps solid. Really tight and handles well. NEW spring shackles in the rear. ALL NEW door seals, windshield frame seals, door window seals and trunk seals. Engine has 160-165lbs. of compression in each cylinder with 60 lbs. of oil pressure at idle and 70+ lbs. at speed, very little, if any, leaking, what the British call "controlled seepage". NEW spin-on type oil filter housing installed. Uses regular oil filter available just about anywhere. Cooling system is in great condition, no leaks whatsoever, 65C at idle with NEW front mounted electric cooling fan. REBUILT brake and clutch master cylinders. New front rubber brake lines. pads, shoes rotors and drums excellent. Body and paint in very good condition. No rust on any body panel, even in the front wheel wells, a known Triumph problem. A southern car where no salt is used on the roads. Frame is solid with no rust.Exhaust solid. Chrome is all original and is in fair to good condition, considering the car's age, but all bumpers and trim are solid and need nothing more than a trip to the bumper repair shop to be pristine. Rear bumper is especially good and would be very expensive to replace. NEW electronic ignition module in the distributor...no more points and condenser to cause problems NEW gas tank and fuel level sending unit...no need to worry about rust or sediment.....NEW fuel lines in engine compartment with in-line fuel filter ALL gauges work properly, including tachometer, speedometer/odometer, amp, oil pressure and gas gauge. Headlights, tail lights, turn signals, four way flashers, heater blower motor and windshield wipers work. Also the bonnet (hood) release cable works perfectly All locks work, door trunk and glove box. Owners manual in glove box. NEW wood dashboard. Original rear view mirror and sun visors in very good condition. NEW battery with cut off switch and new plastic battery tray (no more rust/ corrosion from battery!) Wiring harness (another British car bug-aboo) is in great shape. The NOT SO GOOD: There is a slight grind in second gear if you shift quickly. Could be cured with a synthetic fluid change. Could probably use a transmission mount. Clutch could use adjustment (easy to do). Radio is old and does not work but you couldn't hear it anyway There are some clips missing in the interior and on the right door window seal. Readily available and less than $1 each. Exhaust system is solid but resonator is a bit loud. Front valance (below front bumper) is solid but has two bends in it, easy repair for body tech. Grille solid but could use some minor repair and polishing Steering wheel is solid but could use a restoring. Left air vent has louvers broken however I have two new louvers that you can install. Two gauge illumination bulbs burnt out. Can be replaced when you do the louvers. Could use a new shift lever boot and brake and clutch pedal pads, again both readily available at low cost There is a small crack in the paint on the left side of the hood. Easy body shop repair with signal red paint readily available. Bright front fender beadings dented but easily replaced at a cost of less than $25each There are some usual small paint chips on the car but I have a touch up kit that goes with the car. I will attempt to touch them up before sale. There is a very small rust hole in the trunk bed, easily repaired. The rest of the trunk is solid. See photos. The glove box is solid but the check link for the door need to be replaced Does not effect the door operation All control knobs are pretty bad looking. An easy replacement with a kit readily available. Needs new air vent scuttle seal (this is the thing in front of the windshield that opens to allow fresh air in). I have tried to describe this vehicle as best as I can. It is not a show car but could be made into an outstanding daily driver and a casual show/display car.. These cars, in this condition, are becoming very rare as time goes by. They are rather simple to work on and parts are available new or used from a variety of vendors. I am selling because I no longer can work on the car and have retired to our beach home where there are no twisty roads and rolling hills which make this car so fun to drive. I will be glad to answer any questions. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will assist in any way that I can. Thanks for your interest! Please do not bid on this item unless you are prepared to buy it. I have a 100% eBay rating. I make no warranty, actual or implied, on this car but I have tried to describe it as best I can. It has a small hole in it and the windows are cloudy. The frame for the top is solid and complete but could use a sand blasting and a coat of paint. If you are familiar with TR-4s, you know what a pain it is to put the top up. I never had it up, always drove top down and used the tonneau cover. I have little snap extenders (from a boat store) that makes the tonneau very easy to use, you don't have to strain yourself stretching it out. I have tried to describe this vehicle as best as I can. On Oct-17-10 at 08:37:48 PDT, seller added the following information: FORGOT TO ADD: This car has been converted from the old British positive ground to the modern negative ground. The horns blow but they need to be rewired due to the conversion. It may also need a new horn brush, a $7 part that takes 30 seconds to replace.
