Up for sale is my 1973 Mercedes 450 SEL W116. It is the 4.5 V8 M117 model engine. 1973 was the first year of the SEL model cars and the these had rear doors that were 100mm longer than the SE model cars. This Mercedes has only had 4 owners with the first owning it for 32 YEARS! I have a huge folder of receipts giving extensive records of any maintenance carried out. All the owners manuals, service record books etc are present and are bound in the original plastic wallet. It starts up every time, first time! This car drives and rides GREAT! The engine itself is in great condition. You can see one of the camshafts through the oil filler hole on the valve cover and there is no ware at all! The previous owner recently replaced the mid section of the exhaust and the drivers seat horse hair rubberized back rest and seat base pads. These were bought from GAHH. When i was looking through the receipts i found the receipt for a complete upholstery kit which included new seat covers and carpet for the whole car. This was also purchased from GAHH. The bodywork on the car is in excellent shape. It was re-sprayed about 10 years ago. There is no rust around the wheel arches or around any structural points that i can see. There are a couple of rust spots on the body. The first being a 1-2 inch spot that has developed after the previous owner belived that someone took a hammer to the hood. The second is a small patch of rust along the edge of the fuel filler flap. The third is a small patch along the edge of the sunroof. I've tried to make all of these defects as visible as possible in the photos. Everything works on this car that i know of apart from the a/c, the speedo (stopped at 251,714 area but does not have more than 255,000) and the electric antenna. Please keep in mind that while this car is in GREAT overall condition it is 36 YEARS OLD and is by no means perfect. It is however a really nice example of a over engineered 1970's Mercedes and would make a great car for a mechanically minded person to play with! The car is located in Millbrook, Alabama.
