Vehicle Detail
Behold, in all of it's glory, the 1971 Jeep Wagoneer! OK, it is not all that glorious, but it is pretty interesting. I bought this recently to drive around town because it amused me to do so. It was a lot of fun and I had a fine time until the front brake line blew out and I almost had a wreck at an intersection. I am not going to mess with repairing it, it is a neat old car, but I don't have the time, interest or money to repair it to safe driveable condition. This Jeep has the AMC 360 engine. It starts easily and runs great, with no unusual noises. It seems to have a lot of power. I put a new battery in it ($95.00). The exhaust has been replaced from the manifold back, but it leaks where the pipes join the stock header. All of the stock items are still on the engine: smog pump, A/C and what-not. The A/C doesn't work. There is a vibration as the car approaches the upper RPMs in first and second, I believe this is indicative of worn motor mounts, or perhaps an imbalance in the drive shaft. Power steering works great. The brakes worked fine until the line ruptured.... This Jeep has the Turbo 400 automatic transmission. It seems to shift fine. I had a new transmission mount put in as well as new rear u-joints. It has a Dana 44 rear axle and a Dana 27 front axle. The transfer case is a Dana 20 with 2 high, 4 high and 4 low options. It works fine in all of these settings. There is a click in the right front when it is in 4 low... u-joint related, I believe. The body looks pretty good on the outside rust wise, but the floors are rotten. They are pretty bad! The frame looks OK, except for right below the rear part of the spring hangers. The bottom part of the channel has rust. I will try to show this in the photos. The interior is pitiful. All of the lights, brake lights and turn signals work. About 1/2 of the dash lights work and occasionally the interior light will even come on when you open the door! This is a great old beater and it has a wealth of valuable parts. Part it out, canabalize it for your current project or just fix the exhaust and brakes and drive it 'til it rusts in half. Come see it if you wish, we can risk our lives and drive it around the farm here. E-mail questions. No, I don't want to trade for anything. I have enough unfinished projects already......
