The K-series design was a radical departure in almost every aspect. Based on the original 1000cc brick, K75 motors are generally bomb-proof. Powered by a liquid-cooled inline three-cylinder engine with fuel injection; it utilizes a five-speed transmission with a dry clutch and a shaft-driven final drive. The K75 introduced new technology and refinement for the BMW brand. Refinements like computer-controlled fuel injection, low maintenance shaft-drive technology, all stainless steel exhaust, rust-free aluminum fuel tank, anti-lock brakes (ABS), mono-lever in the rear and single shock absorber, adjustable headlight, high capacity 460 watt alternator, cigarette lighter accessory plug-in. The Dashboard on the K75 has a speedometer and tachometer as you'd expect, but it also has a clock, and an indicator that shows which gear you're in. Especially with the quieter engine, it's nice to have an indicator, rather than having to determine RPM vs speed or keep the current gear in mind for a whole trip.
