1961 Chevrolet Impala, 4-door sedan, 6 cylinder, all original Purchased car in 1993 running and driving in Staten Island, NY. At purchase, replaced ball joints and tie-rod ends, had front-end alignment. Drove for a year. Took off road in 1994 to do restoration. Removed all chrome, doors, front clip in preparation for repairs and painting. Has been stored indoors since 1994. Plan at that time was to create a solid, original driver. Had less and less time to work over the years, compounded by fact I don't live near where the car is stored. I believe owner I purchased from said he found the car in New Jersey, borne out by old insurance cards found in car. According to VIN car was built in Baltimore plant. Car only came with AM radio, heater, clock, 2 speed wiper/washer. NO power steering or power brakes. Do not know if odometer has been around or not, shows 59,044 miles. VERY SOLID BODY: Rear quarter panels totally solid. Rocker panels totally solid. Original undercoating still in excellent shape. Rear corners of front floor pans need to be replaced (have new ones, included with sale). Left rear body mount needs replacement (have new one). There is some very slight rust in trunk floor. Front fenders have some rust in usual places, lower rear corners (near front door) and the areas above the headlights. There is evidence of earlier repairs in those areas, but would need to be done again. Windshield has a rock ding in lower driver's side, would probably need replacement (have a new rubber gasket). Also rear window should have the rubber gasket replaced (I have a new one) as it did not seem to be in great shape and the rear package shelf is stained. Once those repairs are accomplished car would only need to be painted and reassembled. MECHANICAL: 6 cyl 235 cid. 1 bbl carb, generator. Starts and runs, but a little rough from sitting around. Currently runs on aux gas tank, as gas tank was removed to facilitate body repairs. Ran great when it was on the road. Original 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Again, when it was on the road it performed fine, but it might at least need some gaskets. It does drive around the yard. Master cylinder leaks and needs rebuilding, rest of the brake system was adequate in 1994, haven't checked components since, but pedal is solid. Needs exhaust pipe. CAR IS COMPLETE has ALL chrome trim, lights, parts, interior door upholstery, door glass and components. Every component/system worked fine at disassembly EXCEPT AM radio. Many chrome pieces, emblems, etc are not seen in photos, but they are all there. Seats are original, show some wear. Headliner OK. MANY NEW PARTS which are included in sale, as well as assembly manual and accessory parts installation manual. I will e-mail a complete brochure with many more photos and detailed descriptions.
