Vehicle Detail
Here we have for your consideration is a 1974 Caprice Convertible, this is a factory 454 car that has always been Tuxedo black with a black interior and a white top. I have the GM Documentation to verify this..The motor is NOT the original 454 the car came with, It runs good with decent power, the Positraction 2:73 rear gear ratio makes it a great highway cruiser. This car was last insured approx 5 years ago and still has some old fuel in the tank which needs to be run through..The turbo 400 works well but seems to shift into drive at higher rpm than usual..I belive a good highway run will free up any issues as the tranny shift firm and smooth . The seats were redone when the car was painted some 15 years ago..It now sports a bench seat from a 67 Impala with the fold down armrest, the back seat was stitched to match the front, at this time the top was redone,It has a few small tears near the rear drivers window as shown , but the rest of the top is in great shape. The power top mechanism is not working at this time, I was told it needs new cables to be functional. I put the top down for some photos and found one short cross bar that goes to a front cross support had come apart.....I'm in the process of installing new carpet and sill plates in the car, the original carpet was not with the car when I aquired it. Dash is good ,as are the door panels, I think the odd clip is needed for the panels but there are NO SPEAKER HOLES....The floors in the car are decent..not perfect ,but not rusted out like many convertibles.A few pin holes are present but no patch panels that I could see. The trunk is solid but has some moisture under the carpet. The trim on the car is OK, the rear taillights bezels and area around the license plate are a little rough, the passengers side bezel has a dent in it as well as a mark in the bumper just below that. The body on the car seems solid, I would rate the paint between a 7.5 to 8, It has a few dents and scratches on the passengers side, the car is fairly straight with a decent shine to the paint. but has it's niks and scratches, so don't be looking for perfect paint..It's a good 10 footer but shows some wear and tear when up close..Tires are about 80-85% on Rallye Wheels with newer repop trim rings and caps. The car drives , or should I say floats along as they all do..I would say the car will need the shocks replaced, the ride over rough roads could be nicer, I think the originals are shot, Dual exhaust has a decent sound, not brappy or noisy just a set of duals with Turbo mufflers and chrome tips... Over all this is a decent car, NOT PERFECT by any means but with a couple of weekends of tinkering or drive it as is,...you could have yourself a RARE, BIG BLOCK, BLACK ON BLACK rag top for cruising. According to the GM Documents I have for the car...only 346 Convertibles were sold in Canada , 68 with the LS4 big block, 38 with G-80 positrac rear and 51 with the K/05 block heater.... all options this car came factory equipped with ! THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION...HIGH BIDDER GET'S THE CAR....PLEASE HAVE YOUR FINANCES IN PLACE AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID...PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO ASK YOU WIFE, MOM OR GIRLFRIEND IF IT'S OK TO BID BEFORE DOING SO. I CAN BE REACHED AT 250-612-7084 WEST COAST TIME... SERIOUS CALLS ONLY PLEASE....THANKS .On 25-Aug-10 at 15:05:11 EDT, seller added the following information: Having the car on a hoist today to diagnose a small transmission fleak I discovered the floor behind the drivers seat has had a patch put in..I was unaware that this was the case when I listed the car for sale as I had no way to get under the car......I will try to get a picture if anyone would lke to see the repair...If any bids need to be retracted I would understand 100%...I just want to be straight up on the details of the car...I apologize if this causes any issues with people who have bids placed on the car...Sincerely...JoeOn 27-Aug-10 at 23:48:35 EDT, seller added the following information: I took the car to Parkhill Transmissions here in town they pulled out and inspected the transmission, they say there are no issues with it...The reason it shifts at higher RPM is due to a Shift Kit that's been installed at some point in it's life..All internals are fine, I had them re-seal the entire transmission, add new oil and change the filter...The leak I mentioned in the listing was from cooling lines to the radiator, a previous owner had installed rubber cooling lines and this is where the leak was ..I had them install new metal lines from the transmission to the radiator so there will be no further issues with the transmission leaking. Cheers Joe
