You are bidding on a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE DIESEL Station Wagon. It runs and drives great. It's in generally great condition inside and outside, with some cosmetic flaws as any nearly 26 year old vehicle would have. The highlight of the station wagon is its rare Diesel engine. It has a bulletproof engine that Volvo contracted with Volkswagen-Audi group to obtain...it's a factory engine. The engine is VW-Audi's famously durable truck engine modified for automobile applications -- the D24T, the "T" is for Turbo. Superbly fuel efficient and smooth, it's a gem. Great for BIODIESEL use. The car has excellent compression, as demonstrated in the informal compression test videos below, excellent acceleration, quick starting even when cold, lack of excessive smoke, etc. These Volvos often have rust along the door bottoms and in other problem areas....this car does not. The leather interior is beautiful and is free of major defects...it has two seam separations that need to be re-sewn, which is no big deal. The odometer reads about 232,000 miles, which for the D24T engine and Volvo chassis means that's it's just getting broken in. The odometer and speedometer work. The car comes with a clean and clear Florida title in my company's name (if you are not a Florida resident, you can do your own title work in your home state and so you take this title with you). If you are a Florida resident, my company will do the title work for you, as required. I filled up the fuel tank COMPLETELY full with Diesel fuel, and it will be that way for you when the car is picked up. The engine always starts up right away, even when the car has been sitting for weeks. The starter either has a bad solenoid or a loose wire because it sometimes requires tapping it with a pipe or wrench or else it won't get electricity from the big battery the car has. Lately I haven't to do this at all...so it's intermittent. I'd say you'd should plan on getting a new starter and/or battery because although the engine starts instantly, the starter turns slower than it should to my ear...you can hear cranking it in the various videos. Suspension and steering are good. Brakes are good. The pedal is very slightly soft, but doesn't sink to the floor...it could be low on brake fluid or maybe it'll eventually need a new brake master cylinder. In any case, it will not be an expensive repair. The brakes stop the car well, and pull evenly. The transmission shifts great through every gear and reverse. It has a bit of "morning sickness" and either needs to be adjusted or serviced. Morning sickness, in the transmission world, is when a transmission is cold and doesn't want to shift out of 1st gear as soon as you'd expect it to, but after you drive it for a bit it behaves normally. If you haven't driven the Volvo a large number of hours and then you hop in it and drive, for the first 30-45 seconds of driving it will tend to be late shifting out of 1st gear to 2nd gear. After that, it becomes happier and shifts better as it warms up more. A cold start and drive is demonstrated in 1 or more videos for your edification. The transmission has a leak that you can see on the ground...that may be the whole reason for the morning sickness -- because it's usually low in transmission fluid -- if you fix whatever is causing it to leak, it may solve the morning sickness. There are a couple of bulbs burned out in the left rear (running/parking lights and turn signal). It has a electric current short which I haven't investigated, but may be in the bulbs themselves, which is a common thing and few dollar repair to replace them. That short is apparently causing the instrument cluster warning lights (aka "idiot lights") to blink and otherwise illuminate. They all illuminate and blink/flash sporadically and do not properly indicate their appropriate error... Much is documented in the hundreds of photos instead of written out in the text here, and the photos describe the car more fully and accurately than any human can do with words. Do not bid without reading the entire description, bidding/payment/pickup timeframe rules, studying (not just casually viewing) all photos, and watching all videos closely. Doing so is also a requirement of the auction. The dashboard is nice, despite its sun cracks, along with working instrument cluster which is functional except for the tachometer. The windshield does not have spider cracks, bulls eyes, etc. The wipers work (you'll need at least one new wiper blade (you can see in the video the rubber is flopping around, which will be inexpensive to buy at any auto parts store). The heater and blower fan blows hot air as desired. The air conditioning was recently blowing cold and did hold freon, but the freon charge has gotten too low to be operable so it'll need some freon gas which is not an expensive thing. The engine operates at correct temperature...doesn't overheat. All 4 windows operate fine, up and down, demonstrated in one of the videos. There is a manual sunroof which is a really nice feature. Headliner is in good shape. The driver's side front left fender has the ding in it still which was happened in a minor accident a number of years ago. The rear hatch door stays elevated on its pistons as it should. It was replaced a number of years ago. The interior panel on it is a bit floppy; I think it's missing a clip or two. Spare tire, wheel, jack included...and original tool kit, as pictured. PLEASE VIEW EVERY SINGLE PHOTOGRAPH AND ALL VIDEOS SO YOU ARE CERTAIN OF WHAT YOU ARE BIDDING ON. I HAVE SUBSTANTIAL 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK AND HAVE BEEN REGISTERED ON EBAY FOR MORE ALMOST 11 YEARS...SEE REGISTRATION INFO/FEEDBACK ABOVE ON UPPER RIGHT. The following slideshow displays only the first 100 of the 400+ total pictures in the album, due to PhotoBucket slideshow limitations...to view the rest of the pictures be sure to click "View all" near the bottom right of the slideshow display below: And here are the videos. The first video is 10 minutes long. It comprises a cold start--first start of the day, from engine bay perspective, a clear example of morning sickness in the first block (shifts at 22mph insted of 15-16) once or twice....it's very mild, and some city driving. The following 7-minute video is a continuation of the preceding video, picking up where it left off. It demonstrates highway driving, acceleration from a stop, and highway passing acceleration to 80 mph. The following 3-minute video is another cold engine run and round about city driving, demonstrating another example of first drive of the day. The following 7-minute video is perhaps the most important because it focuses on the engine. It is a general walkaround, door open-close demo, but moreover it displays the engine idling, revving, higher RPM sound and most importantly, it showcases the volume of smoke generated at high RPMs -- this is effectively an informal compression test (compression being of utmost importance in Diesels). With poor compression one would observe a plume of smoke from the tailpipe at high RPMs when sustained in a stationary position -- this car clearly produces almost no smoke in the test, and the sound the engine generates is impeccably excellent. Please observe. AUCTION RULES: Payment is due within within 7 calendar days of auction close, by either cash in person or bank wire. Pickup is due within 7 calendar days of auction ending, and may not occur until funds have cleared. A $500 deposit deposit is due by PayPal within 24 hours of the auction closing. You may not pay the remainder by PayPal or by any form of check/money order (not even official bank check, cashier's check, etc). Storage of the car for the first 7 days is 100% FREE. Any portion of the 2nd week without being picked up incurs a $250 charge payable by you, and any portion of the 3rd week is a $500 charge...NO EXCEPTIONS. Absolutely no storage past 3 weeks. This car is sold As-Is with no warranties expressed or implied. You must study each picture and video carefully and fully, as details revealed in them are absolutely considered disclosure. If you are a Florida resident you must pay Florida sales tax on this car, regardless of whether you take possession of it in Florida or not, at the time of purchase. If you are not a Florida resident, you must pay sales tax for your U.S. state of eventual registration if you are taking possession of the vehicle in Florida, however, if you will not be taking possession of it in Florida (i.e., a real transportation company will be transporting it for you to its destination outside of Florida), you do not pay sales tax at the time of purchase. If any wheels of the car will be touching the ground by the method of transport you use, the car must have Florida liability insurance. No qualified safety inspection has been done to this car. You should have such inspection performed before the vehicle is operated. If you are a Florida resident, liability insurance will be required if you will have us provide you a temporary license plate and registration at the time of purchase. If you are not a Florida resident, you may go to the DMV here, or in your home state, and obtain a temporary plate (they will not issue this to a person other than the buyer listed on the title and bill of sale. If you are not going to register the vehicle immediately and you will be transporting it from the dealership on a trailer, you must sign an affidavit that you are not registering it right away and then you are neither required to get a registration nor license plate at the dealership. If the vehicle is "inextricably committed to the export process," demonstrated by a Bill of Lading, to be exported to a foreign country, you are not required to pay Florida sales tax.On Aug-13-10 at 07:16:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Nearly immediately after the previous auction ended, the winning bidder wrote to say he has just (1) one feedback and figured his bid would thus be canceled, and now lives in South America and therefore can't buy the car. So, it had to be re-listed.
