1980 Pontiac Firebird I purchased this car for restoration around Christmas time 2009 this past year and since that time have finished a great deal of restoration. But unfortunatley now I've gotten sick and need surgery on August 2nd and will not be able to work with my car restoration anymore... This car has a brand new paint job, only a couple of months old. In my opinion externally this car looks like a SHOW CAR! In fact I've seen show cars in the winners circle that didn't have a paint job nearly this good! This car doesn't have the original engine in it, but instead has a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am 400 Big Block 6.6 engine. I was told that the previous owner was in his 70's and rebuilt this engine about 5 years ago and then passed away from a heart attack. Supposedly the car sat in his garage after the engine rebuild and was started regularly but not driven until I purchased it for restoration. I have no way of verifying the story behind the engine but if it is correct then it has very few miles on it since the rebuild, and it does run well! This car did have a little rust near the bottom of the body at the rear finder wells but was repaired this spring (2010) by the body shop when I had the car re-painted. According to the body shop there was no rust anywhere else on the body other than a few places of very light surface rust that easily came off when the paint was stripped... The paint job and decals look very nice! I have replaced the break lines and break valves, carb, intake, rims / tires, new weather sealing with the paint job, new gas tank and lines, new radiator, new front grills, and much more... I have invested a great deal of money and time in the restoration so far. The Cooper Cobra tires are brand new and have less than 500 miles on them. I have done nothing to the interior and it is in decent condition inside but not great. The seats, headliner, and carpet arn't bad but all the plastic interior is due a light sanding and repainting. There are also some cracks in the dash. The frame has some surface rust, but nothing I would consider serious... While replacing the gas tank I cleaned a lot of the rear under side and frame repaint it. Trunk is clean, with very light surface rust inside of it. The car runs good and I have driven it back and forth to work several times this spring / summer. It seems to be reliable. The engine has good power and sounds great! As with any 30 yr old car it's not perfect, but in my opinion I would consider it to be in decent shape. I would guess that who ever ends up with it will be very pleased!
