Vehicle Detail
I really hate to sell this bike. I believe it is best in class due to 45 miles per gallon, Reverse Gear, adjustable (on-the-fly) windshield, hydraulic center stand and electric bag locks. 2005 was the first year of the current instrument design and power center stand. Also with CD player and changer, heated grips and seats, and onboard computer, this is truly a Luxury Touring bike (LT). BMW has been building motorcycles (with shaft drive) since 1923. It is beautiful Except; while it has VERY low miles and is perfect mechanically it does have a cosmetic issue. The seats, speaker covers and knee protector vinyl have spots from the previous owner keeping under a (berry?) tree. I can fix them, or offer you the lower price as I have done here. The light spots on the seats are from attempts to fix. This is not a bike for beginners. It weighs a lot, and you need to know what you are doing with this one. I gently laid it down in my driveway once and had to get help to raise it. It handles well and you can do some pretty good leaning while riding if you like. It has good ground clearance, yet a low center of gravity (my opinion). There are many new parts as of last year. It has been garage kept since last summer. It currently has 18,608 miles, but I still ride occasionally. This bike comes with: Spare Drivers Seat, Tool Kit, 12 volt adapter (to normal size), and a Bell half-helmet, if you want these items. I purchased from Battley Cycles in Gaithersburg in August 2009, with about 16k miles on it. It was originally sold by and most of the work has been done by BOB’s BMW of Jessup MD. They only sell and work on BMW bikes, I recommend them highly. FEB 2009 Major Service by BOB’s at 14,713 miles: New Tires, clutch, all fluids, rear main seal, I have all service records. The tires barely show any wear at all. 90% tread life left. JUNE 2010 - Oil and filter change, New Battery and annual checkup. I am the second owner. It is garage kept since last year but was not by original owner. That led to the gray seat and other parts (spkr covers, knee pads) fading and having spots from sitting under a tree. My plan was to fix or replace all those parts and have a basically new bike. I have priced the replacement of the vinyl and parts at $750 at my local upholstery shop, some purchased parts (from Battley), doing the removal and replacement myself. I have reduced my price accordingly. I would be willing to discuss fixing these issues prior to delivery to the new owner. This is my second K1200LT and these motorcycles can go well over 100,000 miles if you keep up with service. This bike is a great deal because it is in excellent mechanical condition, low miles, and if you want to recover the seats you can, or just ride the way it is. I would ride this bike cross country, no issues. This bike gets great fuel mileage; 45-47 MPG on the highway, and 38 to 42 MPG around town. It has a new (last year) Cee Bailey windshield. This is 1” lower-than-stock version with the upswept top and side tabs. It gives about the same protection as the stock shield. It is a very good & clear windshield. I am 6’3” tall and can just see over it when it is all the way down. I removed the inner liner of the top trunk for two reasons. It smelled like pipe tobacco and there is a lot more room without it. A small gym bag fits in there nicely, where it would not have fit before. This bike features: ABS Brakes Cruise Control Electric Start (obviously) Reverse Gear (nice to have) 12 Volt socket for accessories AM/FM 4 speaker Audio system 6 CD changer Windshield electric adjustable Heated Seats, Front and Rear Electric Locks on all compartments Heated handgrips Lighted Trunk with Mirror Onboard Computer with Multi function Display Fuel gauge Coolant Temp Gauge Odometer, Trip Meter, MPG readout Clock Gear Indicator Radio Display Adjustable Suspension for light or heavy load Cruise Control Electro-Hydraulic Center Stand (very nice to have) Manuals You can find the specs for this bike on the internet. I really hate to sell this bike, did I mention that? There are scrapes on the side of right side black rubber piece near driver’s knee. It is nicely designed so that it rests on the black rubber pieces if it tips over. There is a spot on top of the Trunk that I can’t get off, looks like adhesive or something similar, see photo. I believe there is a hookup for the intercom just under the right side of the seats. Bidders with less than 5 feedbacks please contact me before the auction ends. The reserve price is $8,900.00 which I may lower during the auction. This is an awesome machine that you can ride anywhere. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS BIKE IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO BUY IT. I need a deposit of $1000 within 48 hours via PayPal and would appreciate if the deal is done in 10 days or less from end of auction. I have 100% positive feedback and want to keep it that way, therefore all known info has been disclosed. I have a clear Virginia title to sign over as soon as the funds clear. Inspections welcomed, I am 15 minutes West of Dulles Airport and 15 minutes East of Leesburg, VA. Fly in and ride home!
