Vehicle Detail

OK, here it is. This is a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4. It has the following options which is just about everything. Drivers side airbag, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, active aero system which raises the rear spoiler and lowers the front, twin turbo, power steering, power seats for the driver, power windows, power door locks, Automatic A/C and heating, sport and tour suspension which is switchable by a button on the dash, and lastly sport and tour exhaust which is also switchable on the dash. I also installed a navigation and HD radio system in it which works great a couple of years ago, but it renders the steering wheel radio controls inoperative, nevertheless, the system works great and even plays dvds. So, I know this is out of order, but here is a little history on the car and then I will get into what does not work and other stuff. I received this car from my father in law about 4 years ago as a Christmas gift. It was hardly a gift because it definitely had it's share of problems. The dash looked like a Christmas tree with all the warning lights illuminating. Anyway, he lives in Massachussets, and he purchased the car second hand, meaning I am the third owner. Since this is a Massachussets car, and they salt the roads like crazy, this car does have some rust. Not so much on the body, The body actually looks pretty good in my opinion and cleans up well. Not to say that the car couldn't use a new paint job and some minor body work. It does have one area of noticable rust and that is under the gas filler door, one of the pictures depicts this. There are also a dent on the right side next to the turning signal. doesn't look to hard to remove, perhaps even possible from the inside. Also, the wiper arms themselves have lost their sheen and are surface rusted, also in the pictures. Once again, the outside actually looks pretty good considering the miles and age of the car. I even have the original wheels on the car. One of them is bent after I ran over a famous New Jersey pot hole, but it holds air and does balance. The underbody has some rust aswell, particularly near where the front wheels splash the underbody, however, no water gets into the cabin. Small oil leak is evident after being parked for awhile, I generally add one quart of oil between oil changes. Ok, now to the inside. the front drivers seat leather is torn and quite beat up. You can still sit in it comfortably, but it needs to be reapholstered. So does the drivers seat but not quite as bad, look at pics. the rear seems decent with not tears. The rug is also worn and needs to be replaced. Dash defroster vents are cracked and one is partially missing, common for these cars. Door trim on drivers side has a couple of small tears. Front-side windows are scratched, doesn't bother me, but may bother you. And Lastly, the biggest reason I am selling this car, the power steering does not work. A couple of months ago I developed a leak in a line runnin to the rack and pinion. The lines are corroded. As a safety measure I cut the belt that runs the power steering pump so I don't run it dry and burn it out. The pump WORKS. My issue is I am getting tired of working on this car. I have done a lot of stuff and want to move on to something else, perhaps a diesel which I have no experience with. Replacing the rack looks like a pain in the ass. I don't have a lift so I would have to do it on my back, and quite frankly I have no desire to complete this repair. Nevertheless, I do drive it, and it's harder to steer when I am stopped, but no problem on highway or when moving over 5MPH. Wow, well if your still reading this it hopefully means you are interested in the car, because here is the good stuff. Or at least semi good. The car has new tires with less than 5K miles on them. they are all season performance tires with a temperature of A and traction AA with a treadwear of 400. Did I mention that this car is awesom in snow. Even better than my wifes trailblazer. I installed new brake pads front and rear a few months ago. New front outer tierods, both sides. New left front lower control arm. New optima battery. New front windshield last year. New radiator last summer, new A/C condenser last summer. New starter a couple of months ago. New alternator a year ago. New low pressure A/C hose. Fresh fill of r-12 refridgerant. YES, I said R-12. The A/C is ICE cold. fresh lifetime antifreeze. New fuel filter with oil change. I also recently installed a new clutch for the tranny and new 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear synchros. Power windows work, left side power door lock works intermittently. Keys start engine, lock glove box and work on drivers door only, passenger door lock and rear hatch lock do not open with key. rear hatch has a functional remote open next to drivers seat. fuel door opens via control next to drivers seat as well. All power seat controls are functional. adjustable suspension system works and does the aero system I mentioned earlier. I know I am starting to repeat myself. this is longer than I anticipated I will try to finish soon. Drivers airbag works but needs to be reset at a dodge or mitsu dealer since changing the battery caused it to go to fault mode. Heat in car works great and auto climate control is awesome. cruise control works. adjustable exhaust works also, I recently replaced the tv cable for that. all gauges work. right front fog lamp has leak in it and needs to be cleaned out from inside. bulb is also burned out, but worked until recently. Factory security system also works. ABS system works and I recently installed a replacement pump - also rare as most owners don't fix this. Owners manual comes with car as do the manuals for the nav system. the nav/radio can be upgraded for rear view camera and other stuff like satellite radio if desired. I also installed a manual boost controller to get more predictable boost. Engine picture shows this. Also new spark plugs and wires. I must also mention that the All Wheel Steering system does work, I verified it in a lift. Obviously the power steering needs to be repaires before this will function. Also, if car is left idling for extended time period it does produce some tailpipe smoke. Not really visible until you start to drive. Smoke goes away after a few seconds. Car does pass New Jersey emissions, but you cannot leave it idling while waiting to get inspected. Drive up and get probed quick. I go to state inspection and have no problem, private inspection would probably be even more accomodating. Well, I think I listed everything. Allow me to summarize. This car is fast and I have done an exceptional amount of work to it. I made a reasonable amount of modest upgrades like the nav system and boost controller. Althought not having power steering sucks, I still drive the car because it's honestly not all that hard to drive it while it's broken. On the freeway it is a pleasure to drive at all speeds and has wonderful passing power. The 4wd system makes the driver feel confident in all weather conditions. I would have no reservations about driving this car cross country right now. The car is also attractive and I actually get a reasonable amount of compliments for it and not all tuners. Not withholding, like I mentioned previously, this car does have some issues, perhaps many issues. A new coat of paint, some interior reupolstery, and some mechanical repairs may make this car quite awesome. I am obviously selling this car as is. I apologize if I left anything out, but I tried to be as thorough as possible regarding it's condition. I probably am making the car sound much worse than it is, however, I will not be held responsible for anything that I may have left out, so bid at your own risk, and please contact me with any questions you may have. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. I believe this price to be reasonable and have no reserve, and to the right person this would make an wonderful car or a great parts car if you have the heart to part it. Thanks again, -Jack
