Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale is an absolutely beautiful example of an original and pristine 1980 MGB with only 12,000 miles on the original motor and factory Dunlop SP40 tires!!. This car was purchased in 1980 from C and E Imports in Westmont, Illinois and was sold to its second Illinois owner in 1981. The second owner kept this car in the walk out basement of his beautiful home and treated it as a member of his family. I purchased this magnificent car from the second owner in the fall of 2009 and with a little elbow grease and attention to detail, this car is now a shining tribute to the last year of the MG marque. I have the original window sticker, all service receipts, and numerous back issues of the Chicagoland MG Club newsletter that came with the car. Below is a list of original features as well as any upgrades/service that has been performed while under my watch. Original features: Paint is original Brooklands Green and in absolutely excellent condition. THIS IS A RUST FREE CAR!!! Convertible roof is original and in new condition. No rips, tears, un-raveling of sewing, or discoloration of rear window. Boot cover is original and in mint condition. Tonneau cover is original. Leather is in mint condition but center zipper has failed. This can be easily repaired by a qualified upholsterer. Interior is original Autumn Leaf (tan) with black carpeting. All interior is original and in excellent condition. Seats are supple and soft as they have been treated with Lexol for most of thier life. Dash is perfect with no cracks and shines like new. Carpeting is original and in great shape. Original am/fm 8 track player with original speakers!! Works perfectly but drivers side speaker wires are fractured due to age and need replacement. I have about a dozen 8 track tapes which I will include as well. People really get excited over this feature. Tires are original Dunlop SP40s from the factory!!! No dry rot and plenty of tread although I would not recommend lengthy driving on 30 year old tires!! Wheels are original Rostyle. Very true but some very light surface rust which could be sanded off but the paint will come with it. Since the tires are original and rare, I thought it best to leave them as is and restore a new set of 5 Rostyles which are new ready for tires. They are immaculate and finished in proper Moss british silver paint and low gloss black inserts. These can be purchased separately if you wish. I may consider including them if the car goes for the right price. If not, they will be listed after this auction closes. Motor is original and extremely strong with the upgrades listed below. Glass is original including windshield, side windows, and mirrors. No cracks, chips or discoloring in any of the glass. Chrome is perfect around the car with no pitting or chipping. Rubber bumper are in mint condition with the exception of one small scuff near the lower middle of the rear bumper. You simply do not see rubber bumpers in this condition on MGBs. Transmission is the original 5 speed electronic over drive which operates flawlessly. Clutch operates beautifully and demonstrates no signs of fatugue or wear. Brakes operate properly and appear to be original. Turn indicators and headlights are flawless with no cracks, chips or discoloration. Upgrades and Enhancements: Carburation - The original Stromberg carb was replaced with a brand new dual SU carb set-up which improved performance immeasurably. I have saved the original carb and parts should you prefer the original components and poor performance that the old system provides. Exhaust - The new dual carb set up required changing the intake and exhaust manifold which also necessitated installation of a new exhuast system.. Exhuast was purchased from Victoria British and is steel, not stainless, which provides the original sounding throaty british signature exhaust note. Fuel lines and hoses - All fuel lines and vacuum hoses were replaced when engine work was done. Valves - Recently gapped and adjusted as per factory specs. Floor mats - Moss MG logo'd rubber floor mats were purchased when i bought the car. License plate holders - Very expensive stainless steel front and rear license plate frames were purchase from Moss. British flag on front and Morris Garages on rear. Very nice car cover with soft fleece underside material to protect paint Extra fuel filters for future maintenance Extra gaskets, bulbs, and additional spare parts Damage: A hand full of very small paint chips have been touched up with factory touch up paint, none very noticeable. Nothing obtrusive and very minor considering the age of the car. One small dent in the left front quarter panel chrome strip. Easily pushed out if desired. Two pencil point size dings right next to each other below the left drivers side mirror which are barely noticeable but can be seen in the picture of that area. This car is in near concourse condition and would likely be an award winner if entered in a show, which I had not done to this point. This car could be driven cross country with no concern although preserving its pristine condition and low mileage may be the smartest bet. I have title in hand and will be happy to drive a reasonable distance to meet someone half way once the sale is complete. I prefer not to ship the car and would appreciate local pick up. I will only accept Paypal, cashiers check, or cash for payment. $1000 due within 7 days after close of auction. Thanks and best of luck bidding on this beautiful piece of history. Feel free to email with any questions.
