Read on! Do not email me - this is my son's car and his story on this fast car is below. Slide show below description ________________________________________________ 1991 Chevy Camaro RS – Less than 15,000 miles on new drive train. Basically a street legal drag car Dyno Proven 375 HP and 395 LB/FT Torque to the wheels. Best track ET: 12.58 @ 113MPH, with a terrible 60 ft. time (2.2) Engine: 383ci with Eagle Rotating Assembly - Cast Steel crank, forged pistons and rods. AFR 195cc Heads w/ competition package. Click anywhere here to see the cylinder heads are one of the best parts of this car. They were about $1800 all by themselves. They were the best street legal racing head at the time, and they arguably still are. I got all the add-ons, thicker rocker studs, hardened seats, max valve lift pkg etc. Can\'t remember the exact compression ratio. I think it was 10.2:1. Runs off regular (87) gas though. Holley 950 MPFI System with 36 lbs/hr. injectors and 255 LPH in- tank pump. LT4 Hot Cam – See attached specs. 218 int./228exh @050 lift, .525/.525 lift w/1.5 rocker arms. (1.6 ratio rocker arms installed) Click here to see the all important Cam specs. This is a smaller cam but it offers great driveability, great gas mileage, good balance between low end TQ and HP, and it passes smog with flying colors. The motor has 1.6 roller rockers. Click here to see the intake manifold which has tons of potential. It is rated of to 575 Hp with the injectors I have in it. I didn't purchase the computer shown in the ad, but all the other parts are there. SLP 1 ¾ short headers (port matched), custom Y-pipe, 3 inch exhaust with magnaflow muffler. New Edelbrock aluminum water pump, new alternator, K/N XStream air filter. Transmission: T56 Six Speed Transmission (From 1998 Corvette) w/ brand new Mc Leod Clutch and Pressure Plate. Rear End: GM 8.5 inch 10-bolt rear end with brand new 3.73 Posi Differential. American Racing 17x8 inch Wheels, Bilstein HD Shocks and struts, Eibach lowering springs, Energy Suspension Sway-bars, Hotchkis rear controls arms and re-location kit. OK - Now the Story Behind this Fast Little Monster I wanted to be competitive on the local track, I wanted to make imports sorry they existed. So I started to build. First was the motor. I needed to find a good builder. I searched the forums and a review sites and I found Dyno Don in Orange County, CA. A veteran drag racer and long time engine builder. And a true wealth of knowledge of 3rd Gen F-bodies. Everybody brought their cars to him and no one left disappointed. Then of course, he was booked. I had to wait several months for my motor to be finished… it was totally worth it. He told me, “Be real nice to this motor for the first 500 miles, than you can get on it”. Well it was torture, but I did it. And oh man that thing was fast. The build sheet is attached, but basically we picked a very efficient set of heads and intake, both capable of making over 500 N.A. HP and a smallish cam shaft. When entered into the tuning software, it showed a 98% efficiency rating. We put it on the dyno with minimal computer tuning and it made 375HP and 395TQ. It cost about $8000 but I was a happy guyI found a T-56. I always wanted a 6-speed and now was my chance. Don figured out how to squeeze it in, along with a new McLeod clutch and pressure plate. An adapter plate needed to be used, which pushed the transmission back, which meant the cross member needed to be moved and the drive shaft shortened. Well, it was all done, I spent about $2500 and I was a happy guy.The car came with a posi but it needed a better ratio and stronger teeth. In went the 3.73 Richmond gear set with all new bearings and seals. With my new trans. I could get over 25 MPG on the highway, purring away at 1800 rpms cruising at 75 mph. Street mileage is a bit less but that probably has more to do with my driving. ;-) Another $1200, but I was a happy guy.I had thought about finding a clean third gen to swap the running gear into, but alas, I am a General Contractor in Berkley and when I have the time money is short - when I have the money I am too busy. Which brings me to where I am today…This car is really fun to drive. It runs mid 12s at the track. Probably capable of low 12s if I was a better driver. There is more power in the computer too, I only had enough money for the basic tune. If someone wanted to change the cam, I’m told there is another 50HP there also. I am simply out of money and out of time. I would love to find someone who could finish this car the way it deserves. And I’m letting it go for a price I have difficulty believing. Click on any pic and press forward arrow to advance through slide show Details and disclosures 1. The frame rail (where the trans cross member attaches) is cracked and needs to be welded. 2. The existing radio does not work. The speakers are original. 3. The tach shows double the rpms. The sensor comes off the trans and the new trans has a digital one where the old trans was analog. I bought a conversion box, but never figured out how it works. I’ve been told I should just hook up a classic tach on the distributor. 4. It passes smog with flying colors. It does not pass a California visual inspection as some of the parts do not have CARB numbers. Most smog techs I have taken it too don’t have a problem with it once they see how clean it runs though. 5. The Magnaflow muffler is a straight though design and sounds awesome.
