Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1966 Volkswagen 1300 Beetle “bug” convertible with 2,046 original miles. This VW is all original (except for the hub caps and side mirror that were missing but have been replaced). The body and undercarriage are in great shape! The body is straight and still wearing the original Putty colored paint from the factory and is in very shiny condition with no checking or cracks in the paint. It has only been washed in preparing for the auction so as not to disturb the integrity of the paint. This was last driven in 1970 when it was parked in storage. While it was in storage the convertible top was lowered and covered as you see in the current photos. Over the years the storage building developed a roof leak which caused the drywall ceiling to crumble into the interior of the car. While no permanent damage was done to the body and seats the interior was speckled with dried up drywall and water lightly rusted the floor under the carpet. The leak was not repaired right away so several leak events happened. Due to the water remaining on the floor the carpet deteriorated and seat belt webbings were stained. The black seats cleaned up nicely, have no discoloration, no rips or tears and the fabric is nice tight and remains flexible. The door panels and rear panels are in great condition , straight and unstained. The interior needs a detailed cleaning but what was done was to get a good idea of the condition of the interior for auction purposes. Almost all of the weatherstripping is in excellent shape, soft and flexible. Glass is in very nice condition. Again this car is in original condition and has NOT been restored! I’m just trying to make everyone aware of any “conditions” the car has. I restore and sell cars so I’m describing a true, accurate description of the car to the best of my knowledge. Items to note: The engine does not start or rotate. Since the car was driven into storage in 1970 with only 2,000 miles and the engine never had a chance to break in properly, I would guess the piston rings are rusted to the cylinder walls. When a 6-volt battery is connected, the starter engages and some lights work (bulbs missing). The marker light lenses and bulbs, headlights, and engine cover were removed during its storage. They have now been reinstalled on the car but some of the original fasteners were missing. The hub caps were stolen and the side mirror was broken. I have replaced the hub caps and replaced some of the mirror parts. Any original parts will go with the car. The body is in great shape but because this car is 42 years old and unrestored there are minor cosmetic issues. There is a very slight dent/bow in the hood which should be able to be removed without body work. There are some minor surface rust issues on some edges as seen in the photos. Some touchup will be needed and some rust stains can be rubbed out but this was not performed. There are some scuff marks where someone laid carpet on the car. It probably could be buffed out – they’re not deep. The chrome does have some minor pitting but is still very shiny and not noticeable by hand. The black convertible top does operate but because the top is so old it has shrunk with age preventing the top from closing to the windshield. It will need to be replaced. The gas tank does have what’s left of 40 year old gas or “maple syrup” at this point. Again this is an UNRESTORED car and you purchasing it as is with no warranty or 100% certainty of any/all of the facts stated above. This is a legally-mandated estate auction. There are no return or refunds. Due to space limitations and other upcoming auctions, buyer MUST pay in full and take possession within 7 days of auction close unless other arrangements are agreed upon. The car rolls and steers easily and will need to be towed. There is one set of keys and a CLEAR Ohio title. Estate Auction Description This vehicle is part of a group of 30 (mostly collector) vehicles being sold in an estate auction. We have been contracted to prepare them for auction and then direct the sale thru the Ohio Probate Court. For information on more of the vehicles, please see our website at http://www.houseofmouseracing.com. Our contract states that all purchases must be transacted through eBay auction. No auctions will be ended early or sidestepped. There will be no side deals or trades. We were told that all of them ran and drove when they were parked in storage. However, that was several decades ago. We have no other knowledge of the history of these vehicles. We have made an attempt to see if the motor runs within minimal monetary and time budgets. Our listing represents the best of our knowledge obtained from transporting, cleaning and evaluating the vehicle – but there are no guarantees. There is no warranty or representation that the vehicle is drivable in its current state. You are welcome to arrange a viewing of this vehicle during evening or weekend hours. After processing fees are deducted, the remainder of the proceeds from the sale of these vehicles will be donated to 501(c)3 charity Rustler Ranch, Inc. Rustler Ranch, Inc., a tax-exempt public charity located in Ashtabula County, Ohio, whose mission is that of providing a shelter and refuge for homeless or disadvantaged youth as well as providing educational and recreational programs for youth groups from the inner city. Amounts paid for this vehicle over fair market value may, in some cases, be tax deductible. Please check with your tax professional to ascertain whether this would apply to your purchase. Terms: Contact must be made by the buyer within 48 hours. A non-refundable 10% deposit is due within 36 hours of end of auction close, balance due within 7 days of auction close as cash, wire or Paypal only. Due to space limitations and other upcoming auctions, buyer MUST take possession within 7 days of auction close unless other arrangements are agreed upon. I do not finance. No trade or barter. I am not responsible for any fees, or taxes or any out-of-pocket costs. Buyer is responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. No warranty, sold as is. Vehicles listed have clear Ohio titles. Will not ship but will try to work with you if you hire a shipping company. However, since this is my residence, arrangements will have to be made for the shipping company to pick up the car when I can be home to attend it. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and related arrangements and payments. Vehicle must be paid in full before it leaves my premises and I assume no responsibility for damages incurred after leaving my premises. Remember when placing a bid you are entering a legally binding contract. Do not bid unless you plan to purchase this car. Ask all of your questions and/or come see the vehicle before you commit by bidding, because a bid is a commitment to purchase. As you can see by my feedback (100% positive), I describe my items accurately. I have sold other vehicles on eBay to happy purchasers. Good luck and happy bidding.
