Vehicle Detail

1976 Porsche 914 for sale by owner. I bought this car in August 2004. It's been a fun car to have and to drive; unfortunately, I do not have the knowledge, time, or money to keep it in safe working order. I think that the ideal person to bid on this vehicle would be someone who has experience with the 914 and has some mechanical know-how to work on it. At one time, it has been a daily driver, although it's been garage kept and driven only minimally the last 3 years. When I bought the car, I was given a list of items and a folder full of receipts for all of the upgrades that had been done by the previous owner. I do not have the mechanical background to confirm whether or not these statements are valid so I'm reluctant to put them out as the gospel. Feel free to email me with any questions and I'll tell you what I know. Instead of the typical 2.0 liter engine found in the 1976 model, this vehicle has (??) a rebuilt 1.7 liter engine. I had to have a new master cylinder installed in late 2004, and the mechanic also replaced the shifter rod bushings because I was having problems shifting gears (it would "float" between gears). In 2006, the ignition switch was replaced, as were the fuel lines. I replaced the battery in October 2008. The car does start with a little bit of effort, and shifts gears pretty rough. I have noticed a strong gas smell, and once you shift from 1st to 2nd there is a noticeable downturn in power. No doubt, the vehicle needs a major tune up, and the brake system and transmission system need major work as well. The vehicle leaks oil of some sort, but I'll be darned if I can figure out where it's coming from. The odometer has not worked correctly since I purchased the car. The vehicle has 3 Indy 500 Firehawk tires and 1 Dunlop GT Qualifier (one of the tires had a blow out and I couldn't find an Indy Fire Hawk to replace it with). The front tires are P215/65SR15 and the rear tires are P235/60SR15. It also has the Diamond Racing wheels and Jegster Pro High Back racing seats. The hood has extra locks on it, and there's a harness system for the driver side seat belt. There's quite a bit of rust under the hood and I tried to capture as many picture as I could of the exterior. There's bad place on the driver side rear panel and some rust bubbles all over. The battery was moved to the trunk area as the battery pan has rusted out. The trunk opens with an Allen wrench - no official key for it, and it is broken on the right side hinge. It acts like it will come out if you push it too hard, and the lid must be propped open (there's a picture showing this). If you are the winning bidder, please be prepared to have the vehicle shipped to you. The vehicle tag will stay with me. Please feel free to send me questions or concerns - I'll do my best to answer. Thanks for your interest.
