Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1961 Mercedes-Benz 180Db also refered to as the Ponton body style. There were only 24,676 of this particular model built between 7/59 and 8/61. The motor is a 1,767cc diesel with a factory rating of 43 HP and 75.2 lb. ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. I included three pictures of a car just like this one that was restored and sold for $117,152 USD, here is the link to the restoration company that did the build: http://www.weboldtimer.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67&Itemid=77&lang=en (The tan car is NOT the car for sale the white one is. I included the two pictures of the other car so people could see how nice these cars look restored) The car is in overall decent shape, the interior is in poor condition after almost fifty years and would need complete restoration. The body on the other hand is in excellent shape and the bumpers could be made straight and rechromed fairly easy. The only rust holes I found are on the passenger side rear door jam (pictured). The floor boards look to be in great shape and the trunk is decent too. The body has normal dings and dents but no major damage. I have gotten the engine to run but have not actually tried to drive the car so I am not sure about the transmission but it seems to be fine. I got the car running after just a little bit of work, a couple new fuel lines and a new fuel filter, I drained and refilled the tank with fresh diesel, hooked up a push button and a switch for the glow plugs and it fired right up. It runs good and doesn't knock but for some reason the motor will race out of control if you let it run for a while. My best guess is a vacuum leak somewhere. I have a full set of the original wheels but no center caps (two on the front of the car and two in the trunk). There is no front or rear glass but all the rest looks good. This is a cool car I bought it with plans to chop it and make a very unique HotRod but I have to many projects and this one has to go. Any questions you have I would be more than happy to answer. I do have a title but it is labeled as a dismantle title which means you have to take it down to the DMV and show them that it is a complete car before they will issue you a normal title. I have verified this with Arizona DMV and I am actually going to try to take it down and get the normal title on it before this auction comes to an end. Shipping may be available within 100 miles of Kingman AZ, for a price of course. Shipping toward the east may be an option as well because I may be travelling toward Michigan.
