Vehicle Detail
The 55 Chrysler Wagon DOES NOT RUNGood for Restoration, orSalvageable for Parts, orWorkable for Custom Street Rod.OVERVIEW:Owned for over 27 years... stored indoors on cement floors for over 27 years. This Windsor was Detroit-built--only 1983 were produced. The 55 Chrysler Wagonwas the most expensive model in the Windsor line at a factory price of $3331.The New Yorker Wagon had a lesser production run, but was more expensive andcame with a 331 Hemi. Over the years I have seen about half a dozen New Yorkers, but have seen no other Windsor Wagons other than this one. Most New YorkerWagons were well kept estate vehicles as the Windsor Wagon had more suburbanuse like hauling families, heavy loads, bricks, lumber, etc, etc. Another reasonyou do not see the Windsor Wagon, was because they were the first crushed oncethey made their fatal move to the junk yard - lots of weight for the scrap steel.Comes with a good clean legitimate title.ENGINE:Originally all Windsor Wagons came with a V8 301 Spitfire Poly-Hemi.Engine block and heads are intact, as well a few other mechanical parts. The engine was locked up at the time I acquired it - the engine is rendereduseless which means it will need to come out or be replaced. The Windsor Wagonis built on a heavy duty frame, almost any vintage Chrysler V8 from this timeperiod would fit into the engine compartment - 301, 331, 354, 392 or a 426.The powerflight transmission is still intact and is a automatic dash shifterlever... if the transmission works is unknown (2 speed).TWO TONE COLORS:Design by Chrysler’s premiere designer Virgil Exner - you can expect some greatcolors. The wagon has its original paint scheme - Platinum and Canyon Tan.The top is platinum, an off white, and the Canyon Tan is a pink coral color whichhas faded to a 1956 color - desert rose. The car’s color is the same color schemethat were used on the famous Sky KIng Wagon... the mid-fifties television program.BODY CONDITION:No major smashes or wrecks - a few dings and dents throughout.Hood good, roof good, Sometime in its past an attempt was madeto repair the: Rocker panels, dog legs, and fender bottoms -it turned out to be less than desirable. New sheet metal for thesearea’s would likely need to be replaced. All four doors open well, hang fine, and close tight. All the original door handles are cleanand work fine. All the windows crank and work fine - good glass allaround except the front windshield has a crack (W391) anddriver’s side second back window has a chip. Note the glass isnot tinted... clear. Fairly solid frame, strong springs and suspensionwith some spotty rust areas, holes in some sections of the floor panels.New flooring sheet metal will likely need to occur. Lots of nice stainlesschrome on both sides - a few minor dings. Good chrome on thefront end: grills, bumper, hood ornament, etc. Never have seen anoutside sunvisors, or luggage racks on a 55 Chrysler Wagon orthe optional baby seat.INTERIOR CONDITION:A black custom steering wheel is ok, no horn ring. Options include:power brakes, radio, heater, seatbelts front and back, but a padded dash is gone. All gauges look fine and are intact, no clock, vinyl flooring shot.Seats are shot in the front and back - door panels are black and white. The back seats are split and tip down for a single passenger or bothfold up to form a complete back seat... a very cool feature to the wagon. The headliner is gone - bows were collected and come with the car.SPECIAL NOTE:About 8 years ago I was tired of dealing with the dry rot from the original tiresgoing flat. So all the rims were professionally painted black, metal valve stems were putin place and 4 brand NEW 15 inch BFGoodrich tires were mounted... new tires zero miles! This new great tire arrangement to keep the car rolling was about an $800 investmentAll the Chrysler Wagon used large sized rims which also fit 55 and 56 imperials. The traditional Chrysler rims will not fit the station wagons.REAR TAIL GATE:The back tailgate folds up and down, works and functions properlyas well the rear window - glass good. Stainless steel strips are mountedto the gate which gives a real cool “Harley Davidson look.” The back windowrolls up and down fine - not broken. Lots of great latches, hinges, locksand stainless chrome. Only the Windsor Wagons came with the paintedwood (white) - New Yorker Wagons had bare wood that was varnished. The rear bumper is good to ok, all intact, a factory or dealer installedtrailer hitch is attached. Two optional rear back-up lights came with the car.Real fins are good, one lens is fine, other ok with a hole. The rear floor lidlifts up to gain axis to the spare tire compartment, fairly solid - no spare tire. Most, or a major amount of the parts are intact - lots of unique stainless chromeparts were made exclusively for the wagon, which is why it was an expensiveauto when purchased brand new. Lots of custom manufactured pieces are usedfrom the middle on back. Lots of potential with restoration on this fine almostone-of-a-kind automobile. The word “rare” is over used time and time again,But, what I can tell you about this car is “ Try to find another one.”The car has been described as accurately as possible, according to its history, observations and records. Please review the photos closely.
