Vehicle Detail
1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop Sport Coupe Complete car less the following: Windshield Passenger window glass Radiator Gas tank Generator A few pieces of the side molding I have a clear Texas title. Also, I have copies of the titles showing owners back to 1962 (only two). Cowl tag shows the following: Style 56 1037D Trim 581-EZI Color 703D The color of the car was two tone blue and the interior was blue and beige. I have the original engine from the breather to the oil pan. The numbers are as follows: Engine block 0242I45F56FB Block casting 3720991 Intake casting 3837109 Date A136 Heads casting 3725306 Date A136 This engine is a 265 CI disp, 205 HP Power pack. As you can see in the picture it has not been taken apart. The engine turns over. Beyond that, I do not know the condition. The car’s VIN is VC56S07XXXX. It was built in St. Louis in the last week of January 1956. The transmission is a cast iron Powerglide. The only number I have found on it is as casting on the RH side plate. 3709050 The exhaust manifolds look to be the original although the casting numbers are hard to read. It looks like the LH is 3837069. I can’t make out the RH. The Carter carburetor is also the original. The tag is still on it. The number is 23665. I also have the original Delco Remy distributor, tag number 1110869. I bought this car because if was as rust free as any I have seen in a very long time. The outer rocker panels had a few pin holes. The cap portion of the fenders both had a few pin holes. The tail pan had a little rust and the passenger toe pan had a patch in it about 6” by 14”. These panels have been professionally replaced. At some point the foot portion of the floor pans have been replaced. They were done very well. The car has two very small rust areas remaining. One is on the RH quarter panel in front of the wheel well and covers only a few inches. The other is a place about the size of a silver dollar on the RH outer door skin. Both could be easily patched, although I would skin the door if I were fixing it. There is some bondo on the drivers quarter panel. Also, a ding around the wheel well on both quarter panels. Also, the drivers side quarter panel at the tail light housing has some damage. You should be able to see it in the pictures. There are also a few dings on the roof panel. This car has been taken off the frame and the frame blasted and painted. The bottom of the body was also blasted and primed with red oxide primer. The body bushings and bolts were replaced when the body was reassembled to the frame. The front and rear suspension have been rebuild. Also, the steering bushing have been replaced. I think the gear box has been rebuilt as it is very tight with no slack. Also, the brakes have been redone. The seats in this car are in very good condition. Of course they will have to be upholstered, but the frame, springs, cotton, burlap, etc. is all in excellent condition. This is the best restoration project ’56 I have seen in a very long time, and it is a numbers matching 265 4BBL power pack car. That being said, this car needs a complete restoration. Only the frame, suspension, brake, and steering systems have been redone. This car is disassembled and will have to be shipped on a trailer. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I will assist in loading. I have tried to describe the car as best I can. I am sure I have left out something so feel free to ask questions. Inspection of the car and all the parts is encouraged BEFORE bidding, not after the auction is over. Please have funds in place before you bid. I am selling the car, so do not bid unless you intend to buy it. This car comes with no warranty of any kind. Please do not ask the reserve, I will not disclose it while the auction is going on. This auction will run to the end. You may reach me at 940-231-0833 with questions if you prefer phone to e-mail. Thanks for looking.
