Vehicle Detail
I am Tom Klein, a one man band doing business as TOM’S COOL CARS An Independent North Carolina Licensed & Bonded Dealer My Motto: If it’s not cool, I don’t sell it! I am also a collector & restorer. I specialize in all generation Corvettes, plus Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, European High Performance Cars & anything else cool. I attempt to be as complete as possible with my descriptions and have provided the maximum 24 large high resolution photos in this auction. Upon request I can provide a link to my photo gallery containing these and an additional 25 high resolution photos, including the frame & undercarriage, that can be viewed in a full page format. Just ask. If you have questions please call 336-372-7400 between 8:30 AM & 6 PM Eastern time any day and I will be happy to discuss this Corvette at length. I can also be reached via direct email at: tom@tomscoolcars.com To those previously watching this car during the brief time it was listed April 27 I apologize for having to relist. I billed it as a 5 day auction but neglected to select the 5 day option so it automatically listed for 7 days. It is now indeed a 5 day auction but ending Monday, not Sunday. NO RESERVE........NOR RESERVE........NO RESERVE........NO RESERVE.......NO RESERVE!!! IF NOBODY USES THE "BUY IT NOW" OPTION THE CAR SELLS TO THE HIGH BIDDER! 1972 Corvette Coupe Original All Numbers Matching 350 4 Speed. Factory Options: Power Steering, Power Brakes, Deluxe Interior, Power Windows, Tilt Telescoping Wheel, Air (no compressor presently installed) On ebay less than a month ago I sold a non-numbers matching 1970 former Big Bock Automatic Coupe with a 1975 305 Cu. in. small block installed for $14,900. On Monday, April 26, I sold a basket case #'s matching small block '68 automatic convertible to another long time Corvette collector/dealer for $7,500. That '68 Convertible was winched onto a trailer, a pickup bed full of disassembled parts loaded up, and away it went in pieces and far from under its own power! I participate in the Mecum collector car auction in Indianapolis each May and am cleaning house to make room for anticipated purchases. This '72 Coupe with a strong all numbers matching original drivetrain is offered with a Buy It Now price less than the non numbers matching '70 Coupe sold for and less than it will take to get that '68 Convertible in as good running condition. I can testify that this is a good running and driving car because based on what I had been told about it, and on a bit of a lark, I personally took delivery and drove it 800 miles back to NC in just 12 hours. I cruised it 70 to 75 mph all the way. The car performed beautifully running smooth and tracking straight as an arrow. No front end shimmy, no wierd vibrations or noises. The engine runs at 180 to 185 degrees and consistently holds strong oil pressure. The factory original tachometer registers 2,800 rpm @ 70 mph. The factory original speedometer reads precisely the same speed as my TomTom GPS. I believe the 95,500 miles shown on the odometer to be correct but obviously cannot guarantee it. All the original gauges work with the possible exception of the temp gauge which is disconnected. An aftermarket probe style temp gauge (very accurate) is in use, mounted under the dash on the driver's side and is wired to the light switch for dimming/brightening along with the other dash gauge lights. Amazingly, the clock works too and actually keeps perfect time. It’s obvious some significant bucks have been spent not long ago going through the drivetrain. I have a stack of receipts for parts since 2006 including a new clutch (see photo). The engine has been rebuilt, and rebuilt well. After 800 miles the oil looked as fresh as when I began and not a drop had been burned. The car was then garaged for two days before being moved. When it was moved there was not a drop of oil, grease, power steering fluid (new rack & pump installed) or coolant on the floor and after two weeks it hasn't leaked yet. The drivetrain in this car is tight and right. And, it is complimented by the most rust free frame and undercarriage that I have seen in a long, long time (see photos). The paint is not original and comes complete with scratches, dings and a few bubbles (bubbles in paint not the fiberglass). It is a 10 foot paint job. Painting the car back to its original factory color, Elkhart Green Metallic, would make it outstanding and increase its worth considerably. But that's the buyer's call. At the Mecum auction in Kansas City early in April a '72 Survivor 350/200 Coupe bid to $22,000 and didn't meet reserve! The interior is in good condition overall. The bottom seat cushion on the drivers side has a few holes in a seam, there is a crack in the speaker perforations on the passenger side of the dash and the tops of the window pillar trim covers are beat up where they come in contact with the T-Top latches which is common. The carpet is quite acceptable but new carpet, correct floor mats and some general interior spiffing would really make it look fresh. Although the heavy mechanical work has already been done the headlights presently need to be opened manually and the windshield wiper door is also not operating via the vacuum system. If you want A/C you will have to install a compressor and when the engine was rebuilt it was not reconnected to the heater. Please don't expect a showroom condition 38 year old car. There will be other incidentals you will find to do. All part of taking a good running classic chrome bumper C-3 and making it even better. However, the high bidder will end up with an investment that can immediately be driven and enjoyed! By the way. In photos showing the left side of the car you will notice the left rear red marker light lens is missing. It has since been replaced with a new assembly. Also, the stainless steel trim pieces for the wiper door/windshield were not on during the photo shoot. They have since been installed. Trim Tag Reads: Chevrolet J26 (Built May 26, 1972). Thank you. Tom Klein Tom’s Cool CarsOn Apr-29-10 at 20:09:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I MENTION ABOVE A "BUY IT NOW" PRICE OF $13,500. WHEN THE CAR WAS INITIALLY LISTED THAT BUY IT NOW PRICE WAS DISPLAYED. HOWEVER, AS EBAY HAS SUBSEQUENTLY EXPLAINED, SINCE I DID NOT SET A RESERVE PRICE THE BUY IT NOW OPTION WAS AUTOMATICALLY REMOVED WHEN THE FIRST BID WAS PLACED (FIGURE THAT OUT). HOWEVER, I PERSONALLY HAVE NOT REMOVED THE BUY IT NOW OPTION IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THE CAR PRIOR TO THE AUCTION END. EBAY HAS ALSO EXPLAINED HOW TO WORK THAT OUT SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED LET ME KNOW. SORRY FOR ANY CONFUSION.
