Vehicle Detail
Second owner, bought new in fleet group by city in Wisconsin for use in Fire Dept. Had 37,656 miles when i bought it. all service performed in City Shop, all on file with truck. Milage today accrued since my purchase in 2008, includes three trips to Texas, one trip through Texas to Los Angeles to Denver, home through northern plains to Wisconsin, in high summer heat. (110 to 116 degrees) All miles since 37,656 in salt free months. One trip included towing a car on a trailer to Texas, no other trailer miles since new. Hitch was installed by myself, to move daughters car to Texas. Equipped new with great list of components. High output 4 bolt main 350 engine,Turbo 400 transmission, New Process gear drive transfer case, heavy duty radiator and transmission cooler, all stainless steel emissions and exhaust system components, including mufflers, exhaust manifolds. Dual batteries (new in 2008) fitted new, operate through a Cole/Hersee switch on the transmission tunnel. A 40 gal. fuel tank and an auxilary electric fuel pump were fitted new. The records show the city yard installed a light bar, grille lights and a siren, all removed when i bought the truck. Since i have had this truck, i have relined the brakes, and replaced the master cylinder, changed all fluids (coolant, oil in engine, transmission, transfer case, front and rear differentials, brake fluid, oil air and fuel filters) I replaced the electric fuel pump. I replaced the batteries. The front automatic hubs failed to unlock, so i rebuilt the front u-joints, front wheel bearings, and new manual Warn hubs. The ball joints were replaced at this time, as well. This past spring, prior to my trailer towing trip, i replaced the 4 shocks with original parts. I installed a Ford AM/FM/CD player, as it has big buttons, a great amplifier and 4 speaker outputs, and is jitter-free when playing a CD on a gravel road. On one trip, there were 6 of us in the truck, so i had a series of pockets stitched to the back of the front seat. The roof and interior have a series of attachment bases for tiedowns to allow a boat or equipt to be carried inside or on the roof. The truck did not come with a rear or third seat, so i found one and installed it in the correct centre spot, but it doesn't match. It's just really comfortable, and folds flat. The rear cargo mat was cut by the city to allow a stretcher to be clamped in the rear, along with an inflateable boat. So the mat needs to be replaced. the front and centre mats are in average condition, with some tears and holes in them. the city guys wrecked the front and rear headliners when removing the lightbar, but i have the trim parts that hold it in place. The dashpad has four holes drilled in it, but is not cracked. The body is solid and clean. it was washed each time it went out of the firehouse. Minor dents on the RH side front fender, minor rust on the RH rear quarter panel, and a tiny spot at the rear door window gasket on the RH rear door. weatherstrips are in good shape. all window winders are manual, door locks are manual and work well. The numbers and word "SQUAD" remain painted on it, and give it some character, i think. My night vision is poor, so i made a brush bar, and mounted (2) 7 inch Hella lamps and connected them to the highbeam switch. So what this truck is, is a great truck for playing music loud, going down any path you want, with lots of company and lots of gear, and staying cool or warm as you do it. it gets 12 MPG in town, and towed the trailer without a whimper or sway. On the highway, with a/c on, it got 15 mpg at 70 mph. On my long trips, it never missed a beat, and i had (and still have ) complete confidence in it. i just can't afford to keep it, as only one of us has a job.
