Vehicle Detail
You’re bidding on a 1995 BMW 740il with a factory-replaced engine. I am the second owner of this car; I purchased it in 2001 from the original owner who was the president of a local chemical company. BMW had a factory recall campaign on the 1995 740 engines due to the cylinder heads being manufactured from Nikasil, an aluminum that was susceptible to corrosion from the high sulfur content in US gasoline. Dreyer and Reinbold BMW in Indianapolis replaced the short block in this car in 2000 at 99,000 miles with a BMW Alusil engine. It was NOT replaced with another Nikasil, as many were before BMW figured out the problem. So the current engine has about 87,000 miles on it. This car has been my daily driver since the day I purchased it, and I routinely make trips to Chicago and Cincinnati, as well as throughout Indiana. Everything works as it should, including the air conditioning. The vehicle does not leak any fluids, and the tires are in good condition. The gray leather interior is in remarkable shape for the year. When you turn the car on, you hear the unmistakable rumble of the 7-series. It drives very well and gets over 20 mpg on the highway. I have had this properly serviced at Dreyer and also at Miller Auto Care in Carmel. The brakes and rotors are new. I have the entire stack of receipts since the day I purchased the car. There are plenty of scuffs and scrapes all around the car; rust is beginning to form at the bottom of the rear driver’s side wheel well; there is a dent behind the front driver’s side wheel well; the rear window sunshade will go up, but you need to turn the car off to make the sunshade motor stop; the front bumper has a crack and a small piece missing from the horizontal area in front of the grill; the floor mats are original, and as such, show some wear. I’m selling my BMW 740il because I’m fortunate enough to have just taken a new job that offers me a company car. I would guess that this BMW 740il is probably in better shape than most 15-year-old cars, and it definitely runs better, given that the engine only has 87k on it. As you know if you’re looking at 740’s, these routinely go 200k before you change out the engine. I think you know what it’s worth, so I’m not setting a reserve. Please feel free to ask any questions, and if you’re serious about buying, we can arrange a test drive. Thanks, and happy bidding.
