Hello! Buying a car sight unseen from an unknown seller can be daunting. I get it. My name is Greg Smith and I live in Sacramento. To learn more about me with the intent of building your confidence in this forum, please go to schools.org and click on “About Us” then “Governance.” You will see I serve on the Board of Directors of the Schools Financial Credit Union. There is a mini bio about me including a photograph of yours truly. I hope this helps with your bidding.I love Volvos! In 1967, while I was serving in the US Air Force, I bought my first one. It was a 1963 PV544 B-18S, black with a red interior. One fine day I was driving it on the beach in Pacific City, Oregon, and I managed to get it stuck in the sand with an incoming tide. Before I could retrieve a tow truck, the tide came in and did irreparable damage. I owned that beautiful Volvo about two years before I lost it to the ocean and during that time had grown very fond of it.I especially loved that 544, and a couple of months ago I found one just like it on EBay and bought it for $13,000. I flew to Portland, Oregon and drove it home. That’s why I am selling my beautiful 1991 Volvo. I have too many cars, including a ’02 Honda S2000, ‘02 Dodge Viper, ‘48 Willys Wagon, ’16 Subaru Outback, ’00 Chevy Silverado, ’18 Subaru BRZ, my trusty 1963 Volvo PV 544, and, of course, the 240 Volvo I am selling here.My 240 is a lifetime California car with 154,660 miles from new. It is so nice I bought it twice. I am 70-years-old and have owned 13 Volvos in my time, and I especially like this one. I wrestled with keeping it, but decided to sell because I bought the 544, and I need the room in my garage.I first bought the 1991 240 in October of 2014 with 116,801 miles. I drove it another 8061 miles before I sold it to a dear friend who badly needed a car. He bought it from me in February of 2016. After he drove it 28,089 miles, I was fortunate to buy it back in August of 2018. I have since driven it 1,709 miles. This sweet runner now has 154,660 miles. It has only been driven an average of 5,523 miles a year since new.The elderly lady I bought it from had owned it for ten years and only drove it 38,636 miles. She sold it to me, because, sadly, she was unable to drive any longer do to her severe arthritis. Never marrying, with no children, graham crackers, or dogs, she took exceptional care of the car by having one of her gentleman friends perform the needed maintenance. When she had worked at Sacramento State College, she parked in a covered spot, out of the sun, so the paint looks very close to new. She also shielded the dash with a form fitting cover, therefore there are no cracks in the dash. From the pictures you can see the remainder of the interior is also in near perfect condition. Having never been smoked in, the interior is fresh. The first owner of the car was an insurance executive who was in a minor fender bender twenty-five years ago that involved the left front fender. He had owned the car 3 ½ years and had driven the car 78,165 miles before the accident. Being a person of great influence with his insurance company, he requested the car be totaled, and that is why the title is branded. He was ready for a new car and sold this one to the insurance company. I personally know much about cars, and I have friends in the body business. Together, we inspected the car in extreme detail and found the repairs done 25 years ago were of the highest caliber. We went over all of the paint with a weak flexible magnet the size and shape of a business card, and found no filler under the paint anywhere. It appears as if the damage was very minor in that all of the factory stickers in the engine compartment are intact and all of the paint in the engine compartment is original to the factory spray. With a very critical eye it appears the left front fender and hood were repainted, again to a very high standard. Also the left head light lens looks like it is newer than the one on the right side. At any rate, I think the original owner, who was an insurance executive, may have pulled a fast one by having the car totaled, so he could "sell" it to his insurance company with 78,165 miles. Because the car is such an excellent example of a well-kept one, I couldn’t pass up buying the car twice. Now it’s your time to enjoy this well-maintained extraordinary Volvo. Recently, new front rotors and pads were installed along with a new windshield and a catalytic converter. All five Michelin tires are in good condition and the A/C blows cold. I had an oil service performed last week, so she’s ready to roll. The body has absolutely no dents or door dings. There are a couple of insignificant paint chips on the hood, which I point out in one of the photographs. At Cars & Coffee I routinely get compliments on how beautiful the car looks, as you can see in the pictures. The Auto Check report supplied by eBay is not correct. Please contact me and I will get the Carfax report which backs what I have posted, plus 80 photographs of this special 240. If you'd like me to drive it to you, I will for the cost of a Southwest Wanna-Get-Away airfare, plus thirty cents a mile. I'll go anywhere in the States and possibly Canada. If you'd like to use a transport company, of course I will work with them. If you'd like to come and drive it home, after payment I can keep it here for a couple of months in order to fit your schedule.Good luck with the auction!Greg SmithSacramento, California
