2016 LANDROVER LR4 LANDMARK ADDITION - CLEAN CARFAX - SUPER LOW MILES (16,500) The Land Rover Discovery 4 better known as the Land Rover LR4 has had an impressive run towards its 4 generation having started its life back in 1989. This 7 seater square shaped SUV is an icon in itself not just because it’s a great every day vehicle but for the fact that its off-road prowess is pretty much unmatched in its category in stock form. The LR4 has been the defacto support vehicle for Top Gear adventures and more recently the support team for the new Range Rover Sport’s quest in shattering the Empty Quarter.2016 Land Rover LR4 Landmark Edition Review | A Timeless Modern ClassicThis review would be about the cultural impact of the LR4. First and foremost the shape, whether you look at it from the sides or the rear, the shape has relatively stayed the same. This builds a perception of familiarity which grows on everyone ultimately leading to its iconic status. Much like the G Wagon, the LR4 has become the standard for a utilitarian vehicle. We no longer had to worry about refreshed designs every 3-4 years thus making the car look dated.Then there is the suspension. The air suspension set-up provides a ride comfort that is class leading. Its ability in soaking up speed bumps is what caught our attention. We have driven many large SUV’s but when it comes to ride comfort the LR4 is at par with its bigger and more flashier sibling, the Range Rover Vogue. I think you know what I am getting to. The base price starts at AED 269,000 which gives you everything that you need from a large sized SUV ie. the Land Cruiser and the Patrol but in stock form it can match the latter’s off-roading capabilities and in most cases exceed them. Since 2015, the LR4 has lost its thirsty naturally aspirated V8 which was also an engine choice for the Range Rover Vogue HSE and opted for the new V6 Supercharged found in the new XJ’s, XE, XF and the F-Type. There has been gearing calibrations for low end torque and the acceleration feels more or less the same as before when it had the V8.The engine does need to work a bit to move the weight but we do see some decrease in fuel consumption. The engine power delivery is characteristically been maintained the same, which is a good thing because we loved the linear power buildup of the V8’s and that was our major concern when we found out that the V8 was scrapped for the V6 which has less horses and torque. It’s safe to say that the engineers have thought that out and streamlined the power balance and progression knowing for a fact that most of these would be venturing out into the wilderness at some point or another.The Land Rover “Landmark Edition” is the final hurray for what has been a solid performer for the Jaguar Land Rover brand. We get special color, aptly called “Zanzibar” and is kitted with premium tan leather. It’ also comes with 20” Aero Viper 5-split alloys which looks modern yet traditional and the interior get 380W, 11 speakers Meridian sound system which is more than enough to drown the screaming of kids on long trips. The build is solid and we cranked up the bass and found no rattles. This is a miniature tank that glides through any surface you can throw at it.The sad part is that Land Rover will be coming up with a new design which would be modern and more in line with the current design direction. It’s good and bad. Good because the new updates in Terrain Management will make the new version more capable, it will become lightweight and thus even more capable but we will miss the design or the new one. It’s been a good ride and we fell in love with it from the time we had laid our hands on the LR4 V8, that was a few years back. Very few SUV’s are in the market which are ageless, the LR4 is one of those rare breeds.
