WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?Beautifully refurbished from a rust free and straight original vehicle, it’s a great combination of old and new, original and stylized.The original bodywork has been stripped and refinished in “Sahara Dust,” a very rare original hue available on early “suffix” Range Rovers. The glass was removed for the respray, and the interior stripped and all trim removed, so the color change is virtually impossible to detect even with the vehicle disassembled. The C-pillars were stripped of their original vinyl and refinished in body color, and the bumpers were bobbed. Wheels are color matched NATO-style Wolfs, fitted with new Bridgestones.When reassembled, the interior was refinished in a tan leather that has an antiqued finish and a supple hand. Stitching pattern mimics the earlier vehicles and door panels, front and rear, are in the same leather. Carpeting and dashboard are original and excellent, with no warping or cracking.Underneath, the chassis is clean and rust free, with no damage anywhere. There is no rust in the logitudinals, crossmbers, bulkheads, fuel tank area, or rear hatch. No rust anywhere.It is an extremely good looking car, in a very rare and much appreciated paint color, with excellent curb appeal, and it draws crowds wherever it goes. WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?The lusty and trusty 2.5L turbo diesel fires immediately, with just momentary warming of the glow plugs necessary, and idles smoothly and quietly with no smoke or undue clatter. Flexible and smooth, with a broad swell of torque available in the midrange, it accelerates effortlessly with traffic and will happily cruise at modern highway speeds for as long as you care to do so.The gearchange is light and direct up and down, with no hesitation or balkiness, and the steering is precise with outstanding feedback. The clutch takes up at the correct height and bites with firm authority during engagement, and the brakes are strong as sure with no noise, vibration, or pulling. The factory power steering is light and confidence inspiring, and whether you are on tarmac or well and truly off it, the operation is easy, composed, and eminently capable.All lights, gauges, switches and other electrics work as intended. It's arguably the best all-around 4x4 of all time, the Range Rover Classic, and this example is particularly strong, particularly fresh, and does everything exactly as it should.
