Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a very clean and well maintained 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS Convertible in beautiful NorthStar white, and a brand new black top. Many examples for sale these days are your typical 90’s era greenish teal, or maroon w/a tan top....This is truly a timeless color combination. Also rare is the fact that this is a well maintained, un-molested, factory fresh 2.4 liter 16 Valve SOHC Non-Turbo 5-Speed. Best of all: NO RESERVE!!! The great news: No punk kid has gotten his “Fast and Furious” on with this car…No cold air intake, No big rear deck wing, No hack on the ECU, none of that garbage. This vehicle was female owned before we bought it, and was maintained at the dealership. The naturally-aspirated, bone stock motor produces great power, while getting pretty respectable gas mileage, while being less prone to maintenance issues (such as crank walk) with the 2.0 turbo found in the GS-T model Eclipses. And, she likes regular unleaded just fine! You don’t need to feed it premium fuel (unless you would choose to add boost later). This vehicle passed Colorado State emissions with flying colors (see pic) even before we bothered changing the plugs and wires with a new NGK V-Power set. These great results were no doubt due to following the maintenance schedule over the years. Though it runs cool and strong, with 187K on the odometer, we wanted to make sure wearable items were addressed to make it FEEL like a new car again: To achieve this, the vehicle received a brand new suspension kit, which included new Control Arms, Bushings, Ball Joints, Tie Rod ends, Wheel Hubs & Bearings, and both Front CV Axle Assemblies. We also added new E-Motor brand struts/coil overs on all four corners to put ride height where the car has an updated and aggressive stance. We had to replace one of the original E-Motor front struts which bounded/knocked. A new one was fitted, but the old one could be rebuilt; and will be included with the auction if you care to keep a spare on hand (see picture). An aluminum JDM Strut tower brace was also added to give even more front-end stability over stock trim. (only functional/tasteful upgrades here). The stock alloy wheels have been sprayed with graphite colored peel-coat, and a set of red JDM aluminum extended lugs were added to set it off. We like it, but this may not suit everyone's taste. Keep in mind, Plasticote is a cheap fix if you wish to peel this off, and change wheel color to something that may suit your individual taste better. Beyond all the bits above, a new battery, starter, alternator, and harmonic balancer, have also been replaced recently to ensure proper maintenance. The front clip also had a respray to freshen it up after the previous owner had installed a front bra (fascia cover) which had left a noticeable discolored area on the hood/front fascia where it had been installed. You wouldn't normally notice a color variation in the paint; but the lighting in the pictures shows it of as well as possible in the interest of full disclosure to the new owner. A close up of the hood front has been included. Another picture shows the shop manual, some badging/stickers, and the coilovers/adjustment tools which will all be included in the sale. In terms of what it still needs, or may need moving forward: First, a new key fob or reprogram the one existing if it still works. These run ~$99 on ebay, and the dealership quoted me $75 to reprogram it. Second, though it still holds the torquey 2.4 just fine, I feel like the clutch will need to be replaced maybe in a year or two, only because it is a wear item and engages toward the later part of the clutch stroke. The new convertible roof moves fine manually, but may have a fuse out on the electrics if you care to use the button to raise/lower it (door locks currently on manual as well) . Front tires look great, but the rears look a bit dry cracked to me, so even though they have plenty of tread, I’d probably recommend replacing the two in back sooner than later. Otherwise, everything works well as it should from the Electric Windows, to the Cruise Control, Infinity stereo w/10 disc changer, and ICE COLD A/C. The leather interior still looks good, and the plastic trim/dash has no cracks and looks almost new as well. Outside, it looks really good for an almost 20 year old vehicle, but does have a few nicks and imperfections commensurate with its age. Again, check out all the pictures and with a Clean and clear Colorado title; BID WITH CONFIDENCE - NO RESERVE!!!Someone will be getting a great value here with this rare clean example of a late 90’s Gen 2 DSM/JDM. We reserve the right to sell this vehicle locally, and end the auction early. We encourage you to ask questions, and/or come see/drive the vehicle locally. All sales are final. Good Luck, and Happy Bidding! Fall Tour coming up? This car is perfect for a jaunt through the twisty roads to check out the trees and listen to the willing motor propel you around corners and up hills like a swarm of angry hornets! This car is a also a great value for someone looking for a fun, reliable, fuel efficient, daily driver that still maintains a bit of street cred; being one of the most iconic brand models in tuner culture. BTW - Did we mention there's NO RESERVE!!! This is a true modern classic, the Gen 2 years were arguably the best for the Eclipse brand, and are getting hard to find in good shape. The hard work has been done on this one; bid, drive, and enjoy!
