Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280S W108 body style 2.8L 6 cylinder, auto trans This 1968 Mercedes Benz 280S is a largely original, three-owner W108 powered by a 2.8-liter inline six and column shift automatic. Odometer shows 42,000 miles, but has turned over once. Same family owned for the first 47 years of its life. Excellent shape, always garage stored. Completely original but for a few bits. Loads of receipts, original manuals, build sheets, factory invoice, original hubcaps, etc. Car was built to US spec, picked up by original owner from the factory. Car goes, stops and handles nicely, no rattles or vibrations as suspension is very tight. All glass and brightwork in excellent shape. Yokohama AVID tires have decent amount of tread life, mounted on Bundt rims in excellent condition. A/C works and blows cold. All gauges and clock function properly. Heater/vent lever plastic has disintegrated so need replacement (new parts are included with sale), however blower fan works. Heater core had minor leak, so has been bypassed (used, pressure tested core included with sale). Body was repainted approx. 30 years ago – only rust is minor bubbles below trailing edge of both rear door sills, plus trailing edge of LR door bottom (see photos). Besides this, all other door frames, edges and bottoms are rust free. There is also minor surface rust in spare tire well. Straight panels fit well with no visible signs of damage or repair, with proper panel gaps all around. Clear coat failure is evident on the roof and top of driver side rear quarter. The interior appears very nicely preserved, with original dash wood showing a nice patina and in crack-free condition. Seats are optional leather, with minor surface cracking, but in very good shape and firmness. Headliner is in great shape, no discolouration or sags. Undercarriage is in excellent condition, rocker panels and frame are solid throughout with no rust. Recent work includes electronic ignition and fuel pump, upgraded coil, new plugs, 2 new Weber carbs (originals included with sale), cooling fan clutch, differential pinion seal, plus a complete valve job. The tool roll, first aid kit, jack, warning triangle and rubber trunk liner are all in great condition. Car also comes with original keys, original body-coloured hubcaps, Kangol seat belts, fog lights, electric sunroof, electric antenna plus a 2 year-old car cover.
