Vehicle Detail

Thanks for looking at my auction. I am selling my 1970 AMX from my small collection and would like to share some details about the car and about myself for those interested. I would start by saying that buying cars on the internet is a dangerous process fraught with many regrets and misrepresented cars. Most of us know that. It's especially true when it comes to collector cars which commonly are pricey and difficult to evaluate from afar. There are certainly some very nice cars out there and some very honest sellers, but unfortunately they are the minority. I say all this because I have purchase a number of cars on the internet sites and have generally found the experience to be a good one - if you do your homework and pay close attention to the details. I am a car guy, not a dealer, just a 60 year old healthcare executive who grew up loving cars and is fortunate enough to have money to buy these cars and a wife that tolerates my hobby. Lucky on both counts. I pride myself on my transparency and honesty and will describe to you my 1970 AMX sharing all aspects of the car with the intent of making sure you know as much as possible about this exceptional car, including any particular items needing attention. I believe that this honest representation really matters and will help me find buyers who have a passion for these really special cars. Now onto the car itself. I grew up at the time that muscle cars roamed the streets commonly. My neighbor drove a 440 six pack Superbird, my first car was a Cuda and these cars were everywhere. What you rarely saw was an AMX and when you did, you took notice of its unique style and look. Fast forward to today and these cars remain very rare finds. Car shows will only produce one or two of these cars at best routinely, and finding one that is restored to a very high standard is extremely hard to do. This is due to several factors, the greatest of which is the very limited availability of parts , either new or reproduction. Because of this, a high end restoration is best started using a very complete car. That was the case with this 1970 AMX. The prior owner, experienced in Muscle Car restorations - including AMXs - sourced a complete, original AMX, one that was dry stored for a very long time and was completely rust free. Completely. The car was located in Oregon its whole life, never exposed to the ravages of salt , and put away in a garage many years ago with hopes of future restoration and a return to the road. The very complete car was brought to the prior owners home in a nearby Oregon town and completely disassembled for restoration. The final result is incredible as you can see from the photos. The restoration was completed in 2016 and I purchased this car in the fall of 2016 and had it shipped via enclosed carrier to Maine where it has lived and seen less than 1000 miles during my ownership to date. I use it for cruise nights and an occasional car show. I mostly spend time detailing it. Let me walk you through the car as it stands today. The color is Bittersweet Orange ( the original color) and is a striking color which was applied to a flawless body. The Glassurit paint is perfect and shows no defect anywhere. All chrome is exceptional and straight as an arrow. Careful attention to details regarding factory paint patterns was taken to create a truly accurate restoration of this AMX. Undercarriage details are equally impressive and done to a very high standard. Photos show how pristine the result is , including replacement of all suspension components and other under body components. Exhaust remains as new, including the factory exhaust manifolds. The underside of this car is extremely nice, restored to original finishes. The car is equipped with the Go Pak option which means it has the ram air scoop and hood seal. These are perfect as well. The vacuum operated actuator for the ram air is there and detailed to factory specs, but does not operate. As a result, the scoops remain open at all times. This is fine for me as I would never consider driving the car in any weather other than sun. All glass is exceptional and the tires and wheels are as well . The wheels are factory 15 inch versions and painted to the correct dark gray color with trim rings that are flawless. Lenses and other exterior plastic items are all very nice. Windows operate as they should. The interior is amazing and includes the factory original leather seats. Not recovered but original leather that is still very nice and soft.. I also have the original "Buddy Seat " that fits between the buckets and serves as an arm rest or can flip up to create a 3rd seating area for a passenger. Cool feature, but I generally do not drive with it in the car. I purchased a reproduction center console tray that is more convenient. The headliner and carpet are new. Dash pad is likely original, but perfect as well. The dash panel with faux wood is also exceptional and the original number plaque is still very nice and shows the correct colors. The steering wheel is the original item and is extremely nice, which is a rare find. The rim blow horn switch is not working as the rubber has hardened and cannot be pushed in far enough. I have a factory original replacement switch which can be installed by the new owner. Original shifter is in the car ( 4 speed manual) as well as the original AM radio which I had converted to also pick up FM signal. This car came with the rear speaker option and fader knob. I have not installed the rear speaker and two speaker grills , which I sourced after considerable work , mostly nervous about cutting the carpet. All wiring is in place for this and a new owner may choose to finish this project. This particular option included one rear speaker with two speaker grills for a balanced look. I have perfect factory grills and the speaker mounting brace. All gauges work as they should, including warning lights for temp and oil pressure as well as emergency brake flashing light and others. The clock works intermittently and should be removed and repaired or updated to a modern movement. Wipers are electric, an option in this year from previous vacuum wipers. The prior owner has the wiper switch unplugged as he had a bad experience with another muscle car which scratched the glass when a friend turned them on innocently. Since then, he does not connect wiper switches. I get it. I have not reconnected them for lack of need. I did test the motor and it works as it should. The car is gorgeous inside and all trim pieces are in place and correct. This is an area that is often a problem with other restored cars because these parts and trim are missing and cannot be located. Pay close attention on other 1970 AMXs that are for sale and you'll see the difference in door handles, trim pieces, steering wheels, etc.. The homework matters. To keep the interior fresh and to avoid the ravages of cold Maine winters, I stored the car in a heated garage. Makes a very big difference. The motor is a 390 and is original to the car. It was rebuilt using BullTear pistons and a 270H Comp Cam. The carb is a Holley 650 double pumper and suits this motor very well. It is tuned perfectly and starts easily. I added a manual choke hidden under the dash to aid cold starts and warm up. It is one of the most detailed and accurate engine bays you will ever see and is a true crowd pleaser at cruise nights and shows. I keep it immaculate. Original valve covers and all other trim items are in place and correct in color and finish. The motor runs strong, burns no oil and runs as cool as can be, even at extended idle periods. Never, ever gets too hot. No leaks of any kind and the power steering pump is the original style, which are prone to leaking. Not so here. I did finally change the fuel pump to a RobbMc pump because the replacement factory versions are junk and tend to have oil seal failures that cause a mess in the engine bay. This pump was expensive, but will never do that. I have a new factory style pump that goes with the car. Otherwise, this is a meticulous and correct restoration of engine and engine bay. The transmission was professionally rebuilt and fitted with new clutch and pressure plate. I was informed that it is an unusual Transmission gear ratio , a rare close ratio version that performs very well and shifts flawlessly. The car drives easily and brakes have been very well sorted to be as good as when new. I did elect to replace the front calipers to get them working properly as the original ones were simply too dodgy for my liking. You can see from the photos that this is a special car, certainly one of the very nicest 1970 AMXs in the country. I am confident in saying that. It was a solid , complete car at the start, restored with the right eye for details, and done to a very , very high standard. It is , in my opinion, almost too nice to drive and that is a factor in my decision to sell it at this time. I tend to own cars that are very nice driver quality, not show car level as this one is. It can, of course, be driven easily to any event you choose, just a matter of what you are looking for in a collector value muscle car. I have priced this car with a very fair Buy it Now amount and believe the car to be one of the best investment grade AMXs you will see on the market. You will simply not be disappointed. I hope this very long description gives you the info you need and confidence that this AMX is of the highest quality and that I am an honest seller with a very honest car. Thank you for taking time to look and good luck. I will, of course, help a new owner get the car safely onto a transport carrier as I want you to have the same wow experience I did when this car arrived. I am moving on to another car I have always wanted and will miss this one, but believe there is an AMX enthusiast out there who will appreciate it more than I can at this time. ThanksOn Jun-19-18 at 17:43:11 PDT, seller added the following information: I've received several requests for additional information regarding door tag, valve cover tag and dash plate number. I can't seem to add photos of these tags, so here are the details: Door Tagbody - R024754model - 7039-7trim - 031Lpaint - 79AE069251 Valve cover 303X20 Dash plate - 18971 Also forgot to indicate that I have a custom California Cover for this car that is indoor use only but hugs very panel as it should. Very nice cover and easy to fit. On Jun-21-18 at 07:40:51 PDT, seller added the following information: June 21 note: Appears a bidder who posted multiple successive bids ended up cancelling his/her high bid and the results have been noted in the listing.. I suspect they were testing the reserve amount. Only description provided by ebay is " entered wrong amount". Wanted bidders and followers to be aware and I have contacted ebay to confirm that nothing else structural is going on with the auction. Many Thanks
