Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a professionally built 1975 Honda CB550 Café Racer “Jocelyne”. The bike was completely disassembled; a few stock pieces were refurbished, but most were replaced with new or custom parts. It’s a perfect example of “old with a touch of new”. It took first place in the Café Racer class at the Revival Rally held at Ace Café Orlando. I built this bike for myself; no compromises were made, no expense was spared. You won’t find a better CB550 for sale anywhere. This bike is a functional piece of art. This is a NO RESERVE auction. The engine was bored to 600 cc. It has new pistons (61.5 mm), piston rings, wrist pins, and clips. The head has been ported and intake runners have been machined to match the intakes. The head and cylinders were resurfaced by Central Florida Speed. A complete valve job was done and new valves, guides, and performance springs were installed. The stock cam was swapped for a CB650 for with additional lift and duration. The exhaust is a Delkelvic stainless 4-into-1 matted to a Cone Engineering muffler. The carburetors are stock rebuilt Kehnin units. Every gasket, seal, o-ring, and crush washer is new. The frame is modified stock. Unnecessary tabs were removed and new mounting tabs were welded to accommodate the new body along with café hoop. It has tapered steering bearings and the plastic swing arm bushings were replaced with bronze units. The only original electrical component on this bike is the stator. New mini fuse box, electronic flasher, antigravity battery, Rick’s regulator/rectifier, and starter solenoid are mounted to a custom carbon fiber battery tray tucked under the seat cowl. New points/condensers were installed with 5 ohm Dyna coils and wires. Custom wire harness was built to connect everything together. Lighting has been upgraded to a 6” headlight with H4 bulb and an integrated LED taillight. It has a new ignition switch mounted in carbon fiber replica of the stock steel mount. The bike is electric start. I know the current fad is to slap on a set of inverted forks but I feel an old bike should have an old soul. A lot of time and money was spent upgrading stock suspension rather than replacing it to keep true to the vintage experience. The fork tubes were replaced with a new set for a CB750 to allow the use of the thicker dampening piston for a more rigid fork. Race Tech fork emulators and 0.65 kg springs were installed. They were topped off with aluminum fork nuts with preload adjusters as well as new fork tube seals, piston seals, and crush washers. It has new rear shocks with remote reservoirs. Dual disk conversion was done to increase braking using period correct parts; okay, mostly period correct parts. Calipers have new pistons, seals, bleeders and pads. They’re attached to a Brembro radial mount using steel braided hoses. Even the caliper arm adjuster bolt and springs are new. The rear drum is stock and fitted with slotted brake shoes. Rims are high shouldered aluminum laced with new spokes. New bearings and seals were installed into the hubs and a custom spacer was made to replace the speedo drive. New tires, tubes, and rim bands. The body work is custom Carbon Fiber. The fuel tank is a Norton Lyta Sprint replica with Monza cap. The front fender, rear hugger, seat and undertail are all custom made pieces for a perfect fit. By custom made I mean they were carved from foam, molds were made, and carbon parts were laid up and vacuum bagged. Paint was done by Steve O'Brien at Liquid Illusions. I could go on for pages listing all the new parts on this bike, and still forget some. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. You can check out build photos on Instagram @hotsakecycles.
