Vehicle Detail
1983 Chevrolet K20 Pickup Selling for a friend. I did most of the work so figured it'd be best for me to list it up. The truck is an HONEST knock around get work done truck. If you're looking for a C-channeled truck, a show truck, or a short bed / stepside...this ain't the truck for you. Plenty of truck porn to look at on ebay so i figure just save you the time ; ) For those still interested...Here's the Skinny on the truck Truck Specs SBC 350 GM Goodwrench power plant. Owner purchased without an accounting of the true mileage on the motor but it runs healthy with no knocks and descent oil pressure at idle and down the road. Motor aint no spring chicken but she's got plenty of life left to her.Transmission is a 3 speed Saginaw [with granny gear for pulling]. For those unfamiliar....you got Granny - 1st - 2nd - 3rd - Reverse. When you pulling you start with granny and row through to third. Normal driving...1 through 3. Tranny feels good with not grinding between gear changes. There is slop in the gear shift throw which is to be expected for this square body. Treat it like a fat girl...throw the stick in the vicinity of the hole...and you'll find it ; ) The 4x4 works and functions as it should. trucks mostly driving in 2WD but the owner has used it in 4 wheel low on many occasions and said it functions as intended.8 ft bed with a good neck ball / hitch assembly mid bed. I know the "craze" is short bed, short bed, short bed. But if there's nothing wrong with a long bed [especially if you plan on working it as a farm truck] and it ALREADY has the goose neck back installed if you have a goose neck or a travel trailer.Dual fuel tanks. Things Done to the Truck When customer first got the truck, he brought it to me to to look over and replace what needed fixing. It should be noted, he drove it 200 miles from purchase to my shop with no issues outside of a stumble of idle (edeljunk bog). With that said:Dropped the Drivers side fuel tank, drained the old gas, and replaced the fuel sending unit, refilled with fresh fuel. I can vouch for the drivers side tank as I dropped it and cleaned it, and installed a new sending unit so the fuel gauge would work. However, the passenger tank REALLY should be dropped and cleaned out if you intend to use both tanks. The tank switching mechanism functions as it should but if you switch it to the passenger before cleaning...your gonna clog up the new carb. You've been warned. Top end induction kit installed. Customer told me he had a bog off idle and some surging in 3rd while cruising when he purchased it and drove it back to my shop. I'm not a fan of Edelbrocks 1405 or 1406 carbs (which is what it had on it) so instead of attempting to rebuild Edel'junk I sold him on a Holley 1850 with a Edlebrock performer intake (I love their intakes...hate their carbs). Everything went on fine [see pics]. No more bog...not more surge ; ) Installed new Thermostat and coolant while the top end was apart. Cleaned up engine bay and plugged looses vacuum connections. Inspected the brake system and suspension components. The hard brake lines were pretty crunchy and the master cylinder showed evidence of it leaking. Customer had me replace the master cylinder, replaced and relocate the combination valve, and run NEW Nicopp break lines front to back and side to side. There will be no worry when he you hit the "Oh $h!T" pedal friend : ) Installed new header back exhaust from Summit Racing. Nothing earth shattering here, but it is new pipe, not rusty, and has a nice tone to it (see video). Still To Do / Problems Well there's always a But isn't there lol. Here's what the truck still needs in "My opinion"....As you can tell if you skipped to the pics already, trucks got some rusty in the cap corners and the front wheel tubs. If you've had or have looked at 80's square bodies sub 10 grand and east of Arizona...you know most ALL have some degree of cab corner rust. This truck is no exception. LMC Truck (and countless other vendors) sell patch metal for these square bodies that will get you fixed on up. For a driver, the cab corners aint that bad.Customer reports that if the truck sits for more then a week, it will blow blue smoke on start up for about a minute then clear up. After this first start up, it's fine and won't repeat this smoke unless it sits for another week or so. While I haven't specifically diagnosed this...i'm fairly certain it's leaky valve stem seals without looking at it. Not a bad job if you have the spring compressor tool and air chuck to keep the valve from dropping to do on truck. Or...put you some Scoggin Dickies Vortecs on ; ) Video: 1983 Chevrolet K20 4X4 For Sale - YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] TERMS & CONDITIONS Buyer responsible for transportation and/or shipping back to their location.
