Vehicle Detail
This car was delivered new by Miller Motorcars McLaren in Greenwich Connecticut, which sold it to me after the original owner traded it in in 2015. The original sticker price was $289,960 for this breathtaking Volcano Orange MP4-12C with every conceivable option including all carbon fiber, stealth wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, and tunable sport exhaust. I am selling the car because I have several collectibles and very little time to drive any of them as I am overseas on business about 70% of the time these days. The car has always been under factory warranty, first by Miller in Connecticut and subsequently since I bought it by The Collection in Coral Gables. The car has a clear bra covering the entire vehicle including bottom; the only imperfections on the finish are two small marks visible below the left headlight in the close-up photo. Everything on the car works perfectly, it is mechanically current, and it had the McLaren 10,000 mile service just 2400 miles ago at The Collection. The car has had an extended McLaren factory warranty which recently expired but can be renewed for year for approximately $4800 should the winning buyer wish to spend the money. (The decision is up to the winning buyer; for what it is worth I have purchased the warranty extensions two years in a row and never had a single issue requiring me to use it, so I probably would NOT renew the factory warranty of the car if I was keeping it.) I have owned a number of exotics but this was my first McLaren. While my wife was initially not fond of getting in and out of the vehicle, she has mastered it and can do so far more elegantly than me. From a driver’s standpoint, I would characterize the MP4 12C as having the exotic elegance of a Ferrari, the driveability and reliability of a Porsche Carrera, and the most stunningly perfect car-to-driver handling interface I’ve ever experienced. The car is jaw-dropping not only for its beauty, build quality, and performance but for it’s amazing full – spectrum ability as both a hypercar and as a daily commuter. The car has never been tracked competitively , but I have had the privilege of taking it to speed at Homestead Raceway on two unforgettable occasions and have never been able to even come close to approaching it’s top speed of 207 mph. Acceleration on the track is electrifying, braking is like pulling a ripcord on a parachute, and the handling....ohhhhh, the handling...McLaren‘s Proactive Chassis Control - basically an intelligent, “living” hydraulic roll control/damping/suspension system so expensive to produce that McLaren discontinued it after the original MP4 12C — is so, well, PERFECT, that an average driver emerges from a few laps at Homestead feeling like Fernando Alonso. Except with the MP4 12C, it’s not the driver, it’s the car. Whether in Normal, Sport, or Track mode, the MP4 12C lets you frolic on the track with wild abandon while minding the important stuff to keep you out of trouble. Most perfectly engineered vehicle I have ever driven, NOTHING comes close. (BTW, I have test driven both the 570S and the new 570S Spider...both wonderful but not even CLOSE in handling to the MP4 12C, IMHO.) Despite the mind-blowing performance, acceleration, and braking on the track, the vast majority of my time in this car has been commuting in South Florida. It’s incredible, and I didn’t believe it even though I had read it before buying this car : the MP4 12 C is the perfect daily driver. Honestly. It will take you a while to get used to having everyone taking pictures, give you thumbs-up, etc., — the shade-shifting Volcano Orange paint is hardly low key - but even the most onerous commute is a pleasure in automatic mode. I save the paddle shifting for the highway and occasional road trip. (By the way, if you want to see something you will never forget, pull up behind a loaded school bus and watch what happens :-)) A few additional points: 1- Please: no low-ballers, I’m in no rush to sell so don’t waste your time or mine. 2- I’ll still be driving the car occasionally until it is sold so the mileage may be a little higher at the time of sale. 3- Will cheerfully cooperate in coordinating international shipping and export. 4- Please note that this vehicle is for sale locally and internationally; I reserve the right to cancel the listing and all bids at any time prior to accepting a buyer/bidder’s offer.
