Vehicle Detail

1972 LAND ROVER SANTANA 109 (SERIES IIA) ACTUAL VIN# E60221167 NOTE: THIS VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN DENIA, SPAIN, but I ship to the USA. Please check my feedback, and please read the entire listing before bidding. I am an American, living in Spain, and I sell and export vehicles to the USA regularly. Although shipping costs are not included in the price of the sale, I work every month with an established worldwide shipper and will work directly with the buyer to arrange delivery to the USA. I will drop the vehicle off at the port of Valencia for you at no additional cost, prepare all the proper documentation for shipping to the USA, and handle all the US customs and importation on the USA side. If you would like me to handle the shipping, customs paperwork, and everything for you, the cost is a flat-rate of $1900, port-to-port, to your choice of New York, Baltimore, MD, Jacksonville, FL or Freeport (Galveston), TX. No additional costs. No work on your part. You just pick the car up from the port, fully cleared and released. Once the vehicle is in your possession, you will also have all the documents you need to register the car in all 50 states (California included). I can even arrange transportation within the USA, from the port to your driveway. In short, I am here to help with every step of the process of delivering this vehicle to you. You are of course welcome to fly here and test the car for yourself before you bid, but if that is not feasible, I will be happy to take additional photos, videos, etc. and send them to you. Whatever you need. We can speak on the telephone, or by Skype, so you can see the vehicle in real time before you bid. If you have any questions, please ask and I will post as many answers here as possible. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?You can try, but you just can't convincingly fake proper patina. It has to be earned. When we acquired this Series IIA from the original owners - a lumber mill in the Canary Islands - we had an eye toward fully restoring it. But the first few days after it arrived we were getting some unusually big waves here, so we filled it with surf boards and headed to the beach. After driving it, crawling around it and living with it for a few weeks we couldn't bring ourselves to wipe away the wonderful history that is evident in every corner of the truck. You can restore a vehicle a thousand times, but it's only original once.Never resprayed, it still wears the same Sage Green paintwork that came out of the factory, nearly a half century ago. The bodywork shows that age, as well as some scars that have accumulated over the years, but it is almost entirely straight and wears a wonderful, antiqued appearance set off perfectly by the hand lettered company information on the doors and carefully painted weight limits on the lower sides, all of which has worn to a wonderfully rich patina. The chassis and body panels are entirely free of structural rust, with no perforation or "bubbling" anywhere. Light surface corrosion is evident on the springs and such, but this is normal, light surface oxidation, nothing more. It is, in all the important ways, rust-free throughout. The interior, with new "deluxe" seats, shows the same character. Almost entirely original and exceedingly well kept, it looks the part with its original shift knob, and an unsullied dashboard arrangement in the original color scheme, but also has a few personal tweaks added by the original owners to suit their own needs. A small carry bag attached to the inside of the drivers door, for example, and an old cassette deck with small speakers affixed to the front package shelf. We added a few things. Fender extensions to accommodate larger, NATO-style Wolf wheels and new oversized tires. Lamp guards front and rear. The result is a sort of "rat rod" 109, with a combination of rugged stance, serious off road performance, and authentic, vintage style that we're head over heels in love with.WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?As you would expect at this mileage, it drives beautifully. The engine fires easily with only the slightest warming of the glow plugs necessary, and idles evenly with no undue smoke. Clutch takeup is correct and firm, and the gearchange is notchy and perfectly direct - like the action of the well-oiled bolt on an old rifle. Lusty and torquey underway, the engine pulls willingly in all gears, and the steering is light and precise at everything above parking lot speeds. An aftermarket steering damper keeps things under control in rough terrain. The brakes are strong, with excellent pedal feel, and there is no pulling or vibration at any speed. In short, on the road it operates exactly as a proper Series IIA should drive, and is ready for daily use without concern.Off road, it is as stout and muscular as it looks. The 2-door 109 body configuration is the preferred option for overlanding and adventure use, and it doesn't take long to see why "series" Land Rovers have achieved such legendary status in the most inhospitable areas of the planet. In normal range and 2WD, this 109 will get through almost anything, and when the going gets tough, 4WD and (if needed) low range in the transfer case will muscle you through over over just about anything you could possibly encounter.Everything works. Lights, gauges, switches, etc. It's as correct and well kept now as it has always been.It proudly wears its history, this 109, and is ready for the next chapter with a new owner. New stories, new adventures. Whatever they may be.For more information, including additional photos and videos, visit: https://www.autologymotors.com/109series2asage
