Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Up for sale is my one of a kind, rare Toyota MR2 Turbo, with limited slip differential 5 speed manual transmission, producing an estimated 330 horsepower! Rust-free southern California car! This car is the most loved MR2 paint color- steel mist gray. I searched for months to find the right car to install a newer, more modern engine, full stainless exhaust, billet wheel turbo upgrade, and modern, larger tires and wheels. I drove out to Southern California for this car, and brought it back to Phoenix. The car ran perfectly, and was very original, other than the rear wing and taillights (updated to the 1998 spec version that was not ever sold in the US). I am the car’s third owner, the first two being in southern California. In 2012 the second owner had the car repainted, which is when the Japanese imported trunk lid and rear wing were added, along with the taillights. The paint looks good, but it was not a $10,000 paint job, and it shows by not being glass flat and perfect. I purchased it in June of 2015, and have put less than 1,000 miles on it! A job loss, along with not driving and enjoying the car like I should is what determined this sale. The leather seats were in terrible shape from the So Cal sun for 22 years, so I replaced them with a pair of cloth seats out of a 1992 MR2 that was wrecked years ago (the car had 29k miles on it when totaled) and had been in storage. I took great care preparing the engine and transmission for transplant into this car. I repainted the transmission, replaced the axle seals, shift linkage bushings, and linkage ‘cube’ for optimal shift feel. I had the axles rebuilt for reliability and replaced the wheel bearings with brand new Toyota bearings. The transmission was then mounted to a ‘gen 4’ 3sGTE engine imported into the US by JDM Hotline in Phoenix. This engine was never available in the US, and was pulled from a 1998-2004 Toyota Caldina station wagon in Japan. This updated engine not only produces much more horsepower than the US-market spec engine, but is also modernized, with coil-on-plug ignition and a superior intake and exhaust design. Although I did not open the engine and replace major components, I replaced items that made sense to replace with brand new, OEM parts, some of which I direct imported from Japan and UAE through Amayama.com. These include all of the hoses, the thermostat, injector o-rings, injector isolators, PCV valve and grommet. Gaskets replaced on the engine include: thermostat, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, water inlet, throttle body, valve cover, turbo oil and water lines, and others I’m sure I’m forgetting. Most of the upgraded parts came from MR2 specialist vendors PrimeMR2 in New Jersey, and TCS Motorsports in northern Kentucky. The MR2 community relies on both of these companies for premium parts and service. The engine and transmission do not leak any fluids, and run smoothly. After dropping out the original engine, transmission, and rear axles, the fuel tank was pulled in order to replace the fuel pump. For the extra horsepower the new engine makes, I installed a Denso (OEM maker) fuel pump for the Mark IV Toyota Supra twin turbo. As part of this addition, I ran new 12-gauge wiring direct to the battery via a relay and fuse in the front trunk. This fuel pump is capable of high horsepower demands and should last the life of the car. When the fuel tank was dropped out, I also installed a new OEM fuel filter for peace of mind. In order to clean up the engine bay, I rerouted the body harness through the inside of the body (normally it runs in the engine bay) to the trunk, and moved the fuse box into the trunk (a common mod for these cars). This engine required a custom wiring harness combining the original car’s harness and the new engine’s harness. This service was performed by WireGap Inc, a wiring harness specialist who has performed hundreds of such custom harnesses for MR2 owners. I purchased a full exhaust for the car from TCS Motorsports from the turbo to the tailpipe, all in stainless steel. The downpipe is 3” stainless made to match the turbo flange. The exhaust is a copy of the GReddy SP exhaust that was made for the car years ago. It is made from 304 stainless steel, with stainless flex section, dual resonators, and dual tips. If you search Google for “TCS SP exhaust system” the Facebook post regarding the design and features is the third result shown. It makes a really nice grumble, especially when you rev the engine, but it’s far from obnoxious, and driving on the freeway at 70 MPH isn’t annoying at all. I’m a 36 year-old with 60 year-old hobbies and I hate loud noise so this was a good exhaust choice for me. After installing the engine, transmission, rebuilt axles, and new fuel pump, the engine started on the first try. It runs smoothly and idles at about 700 RPM. The Grimmspeed manual boost controller is installed on the driver’s side of the engine bay, and is currently set to 13 lbs. The ECU will cut fuel at 18 lbs, so there is more power to be enjoyed if desired. The car comes with a high flow catalytic converter as well as a test pipe for the exhaust between the B pipe and the mufflers. Depending on your area’s emissions requirements, the catalytic converter can be installed for passing the required test. I make no guarantees or promises that it will pass your area’s emissions requirements. The car has been insured as a limited mileage collector car here in Arizona, and is exempt from our emissions requirements. I purchased genuine Enkei RPF1 wheels (again, from TCS Motorsports) to give the car an updated look, wider tires for more grip, and greater tire options compared to the 15” originals. I put the widest tires possible on the wheels, and had the rear wheel wells ‘rolled’ slightly to accept the beefy 255 width Yokohama S-drive tires. I dislike the Enkei center caps that are available to purchase for these wheels, as they can fall off, and don’t look great. Since Toyota wheels are hub-centric, these Enkei’s would need hub-centric rings anyway, so I decided to machine a combo hub ring/center cap for the car. This keeps the wheels in the right position, and keeps moisture and road grit out. The previous owner replaced the air conditioning compressor with a remanufactured Toyota unit (the only kind Toyota sells now), and converted the system to use r134a refrigerant. In order to ensure high performance of the A/C system, I decided to replace the condenser (sits in front of the radiator) and the receiver/dryer. I purchased brand new parts from Camelback Toyota here in Phoenix, and had a professional install them, along with replacing all of the o-rings in the A/C system, testing the system for leaks, and then charging it with r134a refrigerant. There was a leak in one of the hoses, so it was replaced. Now the A/C is ice cold, and should be extremely reliable, now that all of the components are up to current standard. Work I planned on performing in the future to improve the car, or correct deficiencies: -paint work on the driver’s side, rear of the door where it was scratched when installing the replacement seats -repainting the front bumper due to rock chips, normal wear -repaint/replace the outside window trim on the doors that is chipped/cracked (very common MR2 problem- Toyota still sells replacements) -repaint replacement fiberglass engine lid and install dual cooling fans purchased from TCS Motorsports (included with sale) -replace suspension with coilovers for ride adjustment and lowering -replace speakers and head unit -replace motor mounts, as the car vibrates a bit at idle, which I attribute to soft mounts -replace coolant overflow bottle in the engine bay with custom aluminum tank from TCS Motorsports (included with sale) I have tried to be transparent and thorough in describing the car and what I’ve done to it while I’ve owned it. It is imperfect, but it would be hard to find one nicer for this kind of money anywhere in the country. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick-up or shipping. I am happy to work with you in getting the car transported wherever you are. Further notes: -Hollywood, CA car from 1993-2012 -Mission Viejo, CA from 2012-2015 (repainted, JDM trunk lid and tails added; mechanically original, down to the air filter box) -Phoenix from 2015-2018 -Gen 4 swap with TCS billet turbo installed May 2017 -LSD e153 transmission, axles rebuilt by Phoenix Rack and Axles -New hose from hell and from hell on earth -Intake manifold powder coated gloss black -new oem exhaust and intake gaskets, injector o-rings and insulators, new exhaust and turbo studs, nuts etc. Lots of new oem hardware and clips, etc used on the car. -TimeSERTs in head for all exhaust studs (no future leaks from loose studs-common gen4 problem) -Denso Supra TT fuel pump with relay (in front trunk) and 12 gauge wiring, TCS fuel line kit, new OEM fuel filter -JST (Omori) boost gauge installed in instrument cluster -Grimmspeed manual boost controller -TCS 3” Greddy exhaust replica; includes test pipe and high flow catalytic converter -TCS gen 4 downpipe -TCS stainless intercooler pipes -TCS water neck -TCS silicone heater hose kit -TCS high flow intake kit -Fuse box tucked into trunk -Spec stage 2 clutch kit, OEM throwout bearing -New OEM throttle cable, OEM thermostat, OEM rear wheel bearings and dust plates -New OEM AC condenser and dryer -AC serviced January 2018 and now works perfectly- you can see the shiny black condenser on the straight-on photo of the front of the car, one of the AC lines was also replaced -Honda S2000 antenna -Cloth seats from a wrecked ‘92 that had 29k miles. Original seats were leather. -TRD shift knob, LED bulbs in instrument cluster, turbo cluster with original NA speedo/tach swapped in, so you have the 7,000 redline but ‘only’ 140mph top speed -Includes white turbo engine lid and TCS dual fan shroud kit -Enkei RPF1 17x8 +35 front, 17x9 +35 rear wheels with almost new Yokohama S-Drive tires (<500 miles on the wheels and tires); 215/40 front, 255/40 rear.
