Vehicle Detail

1985 Range Rover Classic Vogue w/5-speed Manual Transmission ACTUAL VIN# SALLHAMV8BA155626 NOTE: THIS VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN DENIA, SPAIN, but I ship to the USA. Please check my feedback, and please read the entire listing before bidding. I am an American, living in Spain, and I sell and export vehicles to the USA regularly. Although shipping costs are not included in the price of the sale, I work every month with an established worldwide shipper and will work directly with the buyer to arrange delivery to the USA. I will drop the vehicle off at the port of Valencia for you at no additional cost, prepare all the proper documentation for shipping to the USA, and handle all the US customs and importation on the USA side. If you would like me to handle the shipping, customs paperwork, and everything for you, the cost is a flat-rate of $1900, port-to-port, to your choice of New York, Baltimore, MD, Jacksonville, FL or Freeport (Galveston), TX. No additional costs. No work on your part. You just pick the car up from the port, fully cleared and released. Once the vehicle is in your possession, you will also have all the documents you need to register the car in any of 49 states (California excepted). I can even arrange transportation within the USA, from the port to your driveway. In short, I am here to help with every step of the process of delivering this vehicle to you. You are of course welcome to fly here and test the car for yourself before you bid, but if that is not feasible, I will be happy to take additional photos, videos, etc. and send them to you. Whatever you need. We can speak on the telephone, or by Skype, so you can see the vehicle in real time before you bid. If you have any questions, please ask and I will post as many answers here as possible. For more details on buying directly from me in Spain, see https://www.autologymotors.com/buyingfromspain/ WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?Cosmetically refreshed and mechanically perfect, it is a beautiful and largely original example of what many people consider to be the "Best 4x4xFAR." Gently used by one family since new and fastidiously maintained, it is a rust free, clean, and very well-equipped vertical-grille RRC, in sought-after "Vogue" trim and in a lovely color combination. The Derwent Blue paint is recent, and shines perfectly. The alloy bodywork is straight and free of filler, having never suffered significant dents or damage. Panel gaps are correct and doors open and close as they should. All trim is beautiful, and the aluminum early grille is free from dents or scratches. Original alloy wheels are in their correct body color and wear Cooper Discoverer A/T tires in excellent shape. The relatively luxurious interior is in excellent condition with the original gray cloth showing only wear commensurate with the age, and no tears or split seams. Polished wood trim is lovely and correct for the model, and the dashboard and center console (so often loose on RRC's of this vintage) are tight as as new. Underneath, the chassis is straight and completely rust free. There is no rust in the frame longitudinals, crossmembers, doors, floors, or bulkheads, and no dents or other damage that would indicate serious off road use. WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?Driving a Range Rover Classic, even for just a few moments, makes you realize very quickly why the name "Range Rover" has become the standard of excellence in the luxury SUV market, but it is easy to forget now that these original Range Rover Classics were not just posh boulevard cruisers - they were jaw-droppingly capable off road. In many ways, superior to the Land Rover Defender sold at the same time. With long-travel coil spring suspension and a platform that was subsequently used in the early Discoveries, a good RRC is a monster in tough terrain. It was a Range Rover Classic that was the first motor vehicle to cross the Darien Gap in 1970. It was a Range Rover Classic that won the first Paris-Dakar rally in 1980 (and then again in 1982) and Range Rover Classics were featured in two different Camel Trophy competitions, more than a decade apart. With a powerful and flexible V8 engine and 5-speed transmission, coupled with full-time AWD, two-speed transfer case, and lockable differentials, this early 4-door will get you through or over just about anything you are likely to encounter. And yet on the road, it is as civilized as you like. Far more civilized than a Defender or anything else that is anywhere close to as capable. This twin-carb example fires easily when cold and idles smoothly, and is flexible and torquey enough to pull away from a stop in third gear, or to accelerate smoothly from 15 mph even in top gear. The five-speed manual gearbox - never seen on USA spec Range Rovers - shifts crisply and without hesitation, and the clutch is strong and engages at the proper height. Overtaking is a breeze, and modern highway speeds are quiet and composed.Visibility is incredible. A tall greenhouse and low belt line makes outward vision panoramic, and narrow A-pillars cause no obstructions to your view, so you feel like you can see everything from your relatively high perch. The steering is light and direct, the turning circle compact, and the suspension soaks up potholes, railway crossings, and other irregularities of every kind with aplomb.Every switch works, every light works, and every gauge works as new (including the small engine compartment light and the rear load compartment lights.) Power windows, mirrors and central locking all function as intended, and the air conditioning and heating systems keep the cabin comfortable in all weather. It is, throughout, a fantastic example of a very rare Range Rover Classic, particularly on USA roads.
