Vehicle Detail
This R26 is a European spec version with low handlebars and speedometer/odometer display in km only. It was rescued from a collapsed shed in 1993. Frame and all body parts were sandblasted. Engine was rebuilt by BMW dealer. Transmission and final drive are in good working order and have not been opened. Many items were re-chromed, which is better than original. Stainless steel spokes. Wiring harness replaced. The list of parts replaced and work completed goes on. Feel free to message me with any specific questions in that regard as I still have all the receipts to confirm. The bike has been ridden approximately 2000 km (~1243 mi.) since the restoration was completed twenty-two years ago. Some things to note: Color was originally BMW Authority Green but painter did not match that color perfectly, so it’s a non-stock color. Pin striping is painted on the tank and is tape decal on the fenders. Speedometer needle swings wildly at speed. Odometer functions and appears to be accurate. Tires have lots of tread. Since they are over twenty years old it may be prudent to consider them inappropriate for highway use. Shocks are original and have diminished damping effect reflecting their age. The engine is occasionally reluctant to start when it has been run at operating temperature for a while but starts fine after it cools a bit. This could be indicative of a weak ignition coil. Please take note of the minor cosmetic imperfections shown in the photos. All in all, this is an affordable, ready-to-ride, fun-to-ride, very fine example of the final year of production for the R26. Of course, there is no warranty expressed or implied. On Aug-16-17 at 18:45:37 PDT, seller added the following information: 8/16.....Here are some updates based on questions received:I purchased the bike in late 1993 and completed the restoration in the spring of 1995. I put all the miles on it since. Nearly all of them were in the first three years after the restoration. It came with a German language repair manual. I subsequently purchased an English/Spanish/French manual. Both go with the bike. There is a toolkit included, sans pouch and shop rag. The tools appear as if they may be original and complete, but not certain. New spare points and condenser included.Final gears are 25/6. The bike has a Pennsylvania Antique title.
