Vehicle Detail
Offered for your consideration is my beautiful, low mileage 1975 BMW R90S. This is a hard bike for me to sell. I own over 30 bikes and this is one of my two favorites. She is a combination of original and nicely upgraded. I've owned her for several years and have ridden her across America from Florida to Las Vegas without a hiccup. In fact, a few of the pictures were from my cross country trip on her. When I purchased her she was an original bike in great condition. However, I quickly fell in love with this bike and spent thousands of dollars upgrading her. My goal was to make this elegant lady as reliable as a brand new BMW while still being a beautiful classic. Amongst the upgrades I've done to her: brand new Dellorto carbs ($1,000 for the set), new wind shield and trim, new ammeter, new clock, new left and right side handlebar controls, new tires front and rear, new air pump, new battery, new upgraded electronics, new seat foam and new seat cover, new gas cap, new front brake lines, new front brake pads, new choke and throttle cables, new mirrors as well as a number of minor items. One rather funny note. I didn't know what grips I wanted to use on her for long rides so I bought two different types and put one on each side. I came back from a nice 500 mile ride, still not sure which ones I liked better. However, when I came into the garage the dogs had made chew toys out of the other two so the bike has mismatched grips. Thanks dogs........ I replaced the original Krauser saddlebags with the far superior Hepco Becker Bags that look like Krausers but are 50% larger volume, have much better top locks and rear locks and are worlds better quality. I also replaced the flimsy original saddlebag holders with new, upgraded three point Hepco Becker mounts. This setup alone was another $900 and worth every penny. I also replaced the backrest with a larger one (much appreciated by my wife) and added a nice Reynolds rear luggage rack that folds back to clear the seat when you open it. It is top quality and pricey. I removed the small factory oil pan and replaced it with a deep dish oil pan for superior cooling and much longer oil life. The front brake master cylinder was notoriously poor on these bikes. I sent mine to Apple Hydraulics in New York and had it completely rebuilt and re-sleeved with a stainless steel cylinder. This makes a tremendous difference and transforms the stock front brakes into state of the art performers. I'm sure there's more I did but it escapes my memory at the moment. The bike was repainted by the previous owner. He liked the candy orange but hated how bright the silver insert was so he redid the paint with a more subtle gradation from orange to silver. The Orange R90S was always my favorite color but I too disliked the silver so I really like it like this. There are a few small scratches in the paint from getting moved around in the garage. The chrome and aluminum are in very good shape. There's some rusty areas here and there (mainly on the front crashbars) but it's really not noticeable unless you look for it. As you can see it has a two into one exhaust. It has a nice throaty sound without being loud or obnoxious and sounds great. I have a great set of original mufflers that go with her, but you'll need to get a stock set of headers if you want to fit them on the bike. They are readily available. This bike is used, but is in wonderful condition. I would tell you without hesitation that you could pick up the bike from my home in Las Vegas and ride it anywhere across the country without a worry. It's that good and that reliable. In short, I redid this bike to be the bike I planned on riding on weekends for years. You'd be hard pressed to find a stronger running, better performing R90S around. The only reason I'm reluctantly offering her is I need to downsize my herd, and my goal is to pay off my mortgage so some of my babies have to go. It sucks having to make adult decisions but there you go. She runs beautifully. Set the choke and hit the starter button and she fires right up. She doesn't burn any oil and will hum along all day. She is a joy to ride and gets tons of attention everywhere I ride her. The only thing I can think of that I believe is not currently working is the neutral light. I'm sure it's just the bulb but I haven't gotten around to changing it. She's also eligible for Antique Motorcycle Club of America events so join the AMCA and go have some fun. As stated above, she is in wonderful condition. I truly hate to part with this old girl. You can't wipe the smile off your face after a ride. She handles like a dream and is simply a blast to ride. If you are in the Las Vegas area you are more than welcome to come by and inspect her. I've been a bike enthusiast all my life and collect and RIDE all my bikes. I'm most definitely not a re-seller or flipper. When you buy one of my bikes, you are buying one of my babies from my personal collection. I take great care of all my bikes! While she's a wonderful bike and you're going to love her, she is 42 years old. There is no warranty, express or implied. Feel free to ask any questions, but do your research and know what you're bidding on. It will make your and my life easier. My feedback is 100% positive for a reason. Well, 100% except for the ebay rookie who couldn't figure out how to email me after a purchase and left the only negative I've ever received. If you are the high bidder and become the lucky new owner, I expect a $1,000 non-refundable deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The balance can be paid by cash, cashiers check or wire transfer, but this should be paid in full within 7 days of the auction's end. The bike and title do not leave my possession until the funds have cleared. I will be happy to store her for the new owner for up to 30 days. You will need to arrange your own transportation company to ship, or if you live nearby you are welcome to pick her up in person. As I said above, if you really want to have an adventure fly in and ride her home. Or pay my return ticket and I'll be happy to ride her to you and drop her off. I will entertain offers and will end the auction early for the right price. I'm not looking to get rich but this is not a fire sale. I've put a ton of money into this bike to make her close to new while still retaining her beautiful 70's superbike persona. I don't expect to get all my money back but I'm not desperate either. Original bikes with this low of mileage in this condition do not come along often, so bid or offer accordingly. Good luck, and happy bidding!
