Vehicle Detail
I present to you, Wild Westerner #2232 208 985, the only Wild Westerner in Maryland, and one of four on the east coast. Yes, the colors you see are factory applied and are original to the bus. Wild Westerners were simply 1973 Kombi's with black vinyl and two tone Raveena and Apple green with a blue stripe at the beltline. This bus is one of about 50 known to exist. This bus was bought new at Masterson Motors in Ventura, CA and stayed local until 1985, when the original owner sold the bus to the previous owner after rebuilding the engine. Between 1985 and 2016, the bus was owned by a gentleman and his girlfriend who used it to travel around the US. I have his gas receipts from the time of purchase until 1998 (including location and price), when it came to Maryland. I purchased the bus from the second owner. I have the owners manual, original tool kit, emissions booklet, radio manual, plus all of the receipts from 1985 to present. As I said before, the engine was rebuilt in 1985 with all new components- heads, bearings, pistons and rings, and everything in-between. Things I have done to the bus: -Removed all of the locks and lubricated them and checked that the original key still operated them -Lubrication and cleaning of slider door track -Cleaning of Progressive 32/36 Weber -New points, plugs, plug wires, coil, condenser, cap, rotor, engine shroud seal, valve adjustment -Installed a brand new group 41 battery and wiper blades The bus runs excellent in warm weather- the 32/36 is not a good carb for Type 4 engines. Once its running though, it runs great. The brakes are good but should probably have new rubber lines installed and a good bleeding to be safe. The transmission has every gear and all the syncros are good. No popping out of any gear and the reverse lights work. All of the relays in the dash are water damaged and need to be replaced. It has high beams, driving lights, brake lights, 2 speed wipers, heater blower fan, and a rear window defroster. With a little bit of TLC, this bus can make a great daily driver. Any rust is cosmetic and non-structural- the frame is incredibly solid and the cargo floor is rust-free.
