Vehicle Detail

Be ready for the zombie apocalypse! My FrankenHonda never dies! Selling my beloved 1983 Honda XL200R. She ain't pretty (well actually she's GORGEOUS!) but she runs like a freakin' tank. Why would you sell this cream puff???I actually needed a bit smaller bike and finally got one. Swapped out between them for a few months, but the wife's none too happy with 2 motorcycles in the garage, so...my loss is your gain. I've been living the dream with this baby. My commute is only about 7 miles on some quiet residential roads and maybe 3 miles through some trails which are the best time ever!!!She does awesome up and down steep hills, through rocks, dirt, and gravel. She probably tops out around 65mph on a flat (I'm 180 pounds). Gets around 70mpg on the street. This bike's been a breeze to maintain, and indeed is famous for it's reliability. Parts have always been easy to find on bikebandit or ebay. MAINTENANCE:- Rear Kenda tire is a hybrid for street/dirt use and only has about 500 miles on it.- chain and sprockets only have about 18 months maybe 700 miles on them.- I have the original and 1 spare key.- Just changed the oil & cleaned the filter and lubed the chain (always did this every 1,000 miles...it's a piece of cake.- Other maintenance done further back - I have receipts. My mechanic loves keeping old bikes like these humming along.- She has a few makeshift parts but still runs perfectly and starts first kick! The bike's what, 34 years old now(?) - she's in great shape for her age. Very well maintained and cared for (always garaged or covered), but certainly several minor issues have accumulated over the years. None of these issues stop you from hopping on and riding this bike from day one as the bike's still fully serviceable despite them, but want you to be aware. BIGGEST ISSUE:- The front tire needs replaced immediately, but I figured the new owner should choose the tire they want. It's old & worn and only holds air a few hours but long enough to test ride. The rear tire has less than 500 miles on it and is a kenda hybrid good on both street and dirt. The sprocket and chain are also pretty new. Everything else is kinda old but still totally road ready. MINOR ISSUES:- right foot peg is a bit crooked but still works fine.- gear shift is a bit crooked but still works fine.- handgrips warn, but still work fine.- right plastic panel cracked (see photos), but could probably be glued to look real nice again.- speedomoter/odometer doesn't work. It's there, but I'm not sure if it needs to simply be connected properly, or replaced. I didn't bother. So, the mileage of 9,000 miles is an estimate.- Front brake lever fits & works well, but is smaller - not OEM for this bike.- The little adaptor for the gas tank vent hose is missing.- Part of the crank case cover was removed at some point - my mechanic checked it out and it's no issue whatsoever.- I juryrigged some bolts as rear/passenger foot pegs because I couldn't find proper fitting actual foot pegs.- Street legal as far as I can tell. Headlight & brake light work, but turn signals don't. I've been riding all over San Diego city streets with no cop even looking twice. When I bought the bike it didn't have any turn signals, so I bought some cheapy ones just to have them on there as "decoys" in case I get pulled over, but I don't know anything about how to hook them up so never tried. I figured if I did ever get pulled over (never have) I'd agree that I need to fix them. Best I could tell reading up on it CA got more strict about this in the late '90's about turn signals, but older bikes were basically grandfathered in (rider must use hand signals and be riding in daylight).I figure you could just pop on a battery-operated bicycle turn signal kit like this one for like $5! So, I'd just do that if the turn signals are a concern for you. Search ebay for LED-Bicycle-Bike-Turn-Signal-Directional-Brake-Light-Lamp-Horn (or something like that). It's true - You meet the nicest people on a Honda.Feel the love at sites like this:advrider dot com Search the-honda-xl-and-other-vintage-singles-thread. motorcycleforum dot com thread 123422. Here's a quick video showing how she starts right up the first kick:Just search "kickstarting XL200" at youtube - it should be among the first 3 videos. Clean, clear title, currently registered in FL. This a CA bike, but I'm military from FL stationed out here. SHIPPING would be up to you. I can assist on this end if you do it.TRANSPORT: I can haul her up to anywhere in San Diego around interstate 8 or lower. Possibly up to the Los Angeles area if we plan ahead a couple of weeks as we go up there from time to time -- give me up to 3 weeks to plan that, but would likely be able to do it quicker. I could throw in a compact hydraulic motorcycle carrier for class III 2" receiver for $50 if you want it. I can also show you where you can order a tow dolly where you haul the motorcycle by its front wheel on a class I or II 1 1/4" receiver (so even a compact car could tow her). She only weighs around 250 pounds total.
