Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1970 Pontiac GTO. This particular car is in project condition and needs a little TLC but I believe it has great potential. For the most part the body is in straight condition, but has been involved in an accident as you can tell from the pictures. I do have an original nose for the car or a fiberglass one that you can take your pick of if you are the winning bidder. I believe that the fender could be repaired and the splash pan still seems to be in great condition. There is some rust bubbling in both lower front fenders behind the wheel. I have posted pictures of this damage. Also the doors have some rust on the lower skins but again I believe it to be very repairable. The jamb of the driver side door seems solid, but the front of the passenger side jamb does have some rust through. I have also posted a picture of this. Moving rearward the original quarters have some light bubbling around the wheel opening and some larger bubbles on the lower 3 or 4 inches. Again it all looks very repairable. The trunk deck has some rust on the most rear bottom section at each rear corner. The quarters above the taillight/bumper is surface rusted but is very solid feeling. Also the areas around the front and rear windows are EXTREMELY solid. The trunk floor is in really good shape but on the driver’s side there are several small holes. It should be an easy patch. The floorboards are in decent shape. I do know that there is an area under the back seat on the driver’s side that could use a patch but other than that there are ok. I have not had the carpet out but looked under the car. The frame all looks to be in excellent shape. The hood is in repairable shape but has some rust through on the rear sections and some on the extreme front sections. The roof is very solid but is lightly surface rusted as a lot of paint has peeled off of the top sections of the car. This car also has an OEM rear spoiler on it, however I do not believe it to be original equipment on this car. All of the glass in the car is in excellent shape with no scratches or cracks. The car is originally an Atoll Blue car. It has been repainted at some point, and I believe it may be a shade off. I want to emphasize that I believe that ALL sheet metal on this GTO is very repairable. The interior is complete but could use some TLC. From some decoding I see that it should be black interior, however it has been changed to blue at some point. I believe that the seat upholstery is original GM upholstery. It is in good reusable shape. I have only found one pick in the material on the rear seat. The headliner looks ok but has to holes in it about the size of a quarter. The dash pad is cracked. It has the wood sport wheel but it could use a restoration. The carpet is extremely faded. I think the door panels could be reused but might benefit from a dye job. The rear package tray is missing but is cheaply replaced. The rear door panels are in decent shape, but the bottom plastic arm rests are both broken. They can be replaced at a reasonable price. The factory in-dash tachometer works great. The center console is in decent shape but could also benefit from a dye job. This car also has tilt steering. It has the electric trunk button in the glove box, but I am unaware if the electric actuator is still on the deck. This car can run and drive. I have driven it up and down the street here in my community. The engine has an exhaust leak but runs well. It is a 428 engine with reconditioned connecting rods and forged pistons. It has ported casting number 48 heads. The car runs a 068 hydraulic camshaft. It is topped with a factory cast iron intake and 800 cfm Quadrajet. It is a little cold nature and has some old fuel in it but once it warms up it runs strong and has a TON of POWER. It has a very strong shifting T350 transmission that works well. The car has an 8.2 inch 10-bolt rear axle with 3.55 gears and posi-traction. I feel that all of the running gear could be cleaned up a little and used as is. The brakes seem to be in good shape as well. It has standard disc brakes up front as well. It is an original A/C car. The box is still on the firewall and the condenser is still in front but it is missing the A/C compressor. I really hate to part with this car but I just have too much going on right now to do a restoration. This could make someone a wonderful project that will turn into a great car.
