THE RESERVE HAS BEEN LOWERED TO LESS THAN THE PREVIOUS AUCTION'S TOP BID. BUY IT NOW AT $12,500 This Austin Healey 3000 is a very solid candidate for restoration. A restoration was started years ago, new parts were purchased for the car, and then the restoration stalled for a number of years and we purchased the car. I've had many big Healeys in the past and this is the most solid unrestored one that I've seen. When the restoration was begun the paint was stripped off the body panels. This was done a number of years back and a modern etching primer was not applied after this work. To those not experienced with these old British aluminum/steel cars or truly any older car and the bodywork that is involved with getting back in top shape, all one can see at first is surface rust all over the car. Please look closer...Obviously you can see the visual difference between the aluminum shroud and the steel fenders and the surface corrosion that many years in a humid Florida warehouse gave this car... The bottom of both the front and rear fenders and shroud look excellent without major damage or previous rust repair. It appears that the original floorboards were painted at one time and that may have preserved them. I see no rust thru at all on these floorboards and only chipping paint and some surface scale. The light you can see from underneath the car on a lift is around the transmission tunnel as it is not fully bolted down. With the car on a lift we have looked closely at the frame of the car and the body panels. The frame is very solid with no rust found, even the usual suspects like the outriggers look solid. There appears to be only very minor body work done on the car including a patch on the bottom side of the drivers side quarter panel behind the door. The only rust found on the car is a small amount in the left trunk area floorpan, an easy repair. The engine turned easily when we got the car. We hooked up a hot battery to the car and spun it over a few times with the coil unhooked and built up oil pressure. With the coil connected and a fuel line hooked up to a remote fuel source, it cranked up immediately and ran great. We didn't run it long but it sounded good and I do not believe that this engine would require a full rebuild. The hydraulics of the car including the brakes and clutch, of course, will need to be rebuilt. Because of this, the car can't be driven but rolls and steers fine. Most of the minor trim was removed from the car for restoration and we have sorted thru the parts and I see very little missing. Included in the parts are both headlight buckets and trim rings, wiper arms with nos blades in the box, ashtray, door handles and latches, front grill trim, convertible top frame and hardware, new bumper and bumper overriders and brackets, turn signal bases (no lenses), both front seat frames are there but the bottom cushion is missing on both, rear seats, spare wheel, and much more. The car will need a new windshield and rear window for the hardtop. Please message me for a link to more detailed photos.
