*** UPDATE*** I had the car looked at by a local independent german auto tech and was told the car needed to have the transmission valve body changed (evidently this is a well known problem for the e38). Valve body can be found on ebay starting at about $300. The estimate for repair would be the cost of parts ie. valve body, gasket, fluid, filter and 2hrs shop labor. less then $1000. Also told this repair is completed with the transmission in the car. It will also need a trans cooler line. (most likely started the problem) Overall the car is in very good condition however it does have a transmission issue. I took this car on trade in February, it seemed to run and drive fine plenty of power. The car sat for two months, I started the car after sitting it started and drove just fine when it was cold once the vehicle got warm I immediately noticed some slipping and a clunk shifting from reverse to drive, ultimately the transmission has gone into " transmission failsafe program" mode. I also noticed a small puddle of transmission fluid under the car (looks to be coming from a cooler hose). The OBD scanner gave a single code for output speed sensor. I have no idea what happened to the vehicle. I'm not sure if it's just low on transmission oil from the leak or if it is a more serious transmission problem. I do not have time nor desire to have the car repaired. I'm selling it ASIS with no reserve. This car has been very well taken care of by the previous owner, it has a very nice interior with minimal flaws and is fully loaded including extended leather package in black.
