Vehicle Detail
2001 E38 740i M-Sport 4.4L 32V V8 with 195k miles. FACTORY OPTIONS: Steptronic transmission, body colored bumpers, climate comfort windscreen, power glass moonroof, power rear window shade, manual rear side window shades, auto dimming rear view mirror, power contour front seats, headlight washers, Park Distance Control, rain sensing windshield wipers, Xenon headlights, navigation system with telephone cradle, 6 disc CD changer, 14 speaker audio system, M-Sport suspension & steering wheel, M-Sport 18" light alloy wheels, Dynamic Stability Control, power, telescoping steering wheel, alarm system, remote control key fobs (2), and smokers package. RECENT UPGRADES: New Bilstein front shocks, New Akebono brake pads & wear sensors all around. New BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S tires with 40K mile manufacturer's warranty all around. New front thrust arms. 4-wheel laser alignment on Hunter alignment machine. New battery. New fan clutch. New smoked lens kit all around. Receipts for all upgrades included. THE GOOD: I am the second owner of this very clean, Florida car. The original owner traded it in at a local dealership after 190k well-maintained highway miles. No rust whatsoever. Black leather interior is in excellent condition. Air conditioning blows cold. Very comfortable, capable, and handsome luxury sports car. THE BAD: Navigation system does not work. Radio and CD changer work, but screen on dash does not, Cassette tape player does not work. ABS & DSC warning lights are on due to faulty wheel speed sensor. Front inner wheel well covers are disintegrating. Rear power window shade sometimes does not deploy, but always retracts. Rear quarter window shades do not retract & have been removed, but are included. B pillar interior trim pieces had broken mounting tabs and have been removed, lower panels included. Map pockets in front seat backs hang open. Some missing pixels on instrument panel. Paint starting to peel on roof. THE UGLY: Timing chain does not move when engine is turned over. Most likely failed timing chain guides, but I have not dismantled the engine any further than to verify that this is the issue. This engine will need new chain guides and a top end rebuild at least, but M62TU engines are plentiful, and I counted no less than 5 complete, guaranteed running engines for sale here on ebay at the time of this listing, I simply do not have the space or equipment to do a proper motor swap.
