Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1982 R65, with 48,350 miles. In the last 5K, the transmission has been rebuilt, with a taller ratio rear installed from a /6, that really transforms the bike and makes it a smoother, higher speed rider. The rear main seal was replaced at the time, and new rear brake shoes, Hagon shocks, and Bridgestone Spitfire tires and tubes were added. When the shifter spring broke, a $1.70 part that requires expensive labor to replace, I did the upgrades while things were already apart. I've also recently replaced the fork seals and added gaiters to keep out the grit, changed the oil and filter, added new plugs, had the carbs adjusted and synched, and installed a new oil pressure switch to stop a minor oil weep. The stock ratio rear drive will be included if you wished to reinstall it, as are the original Boge factory shocks. Reynolds Ride-Off center stand and Browns side stands have been added, and both stock BMW stands are also included, as are two Givi shields, factory tool kit, and owner's manual. ALL switches, lights, horns, and locks work except for the gas cap, as do all keys, hinges, latches, etc. An Excellent pair of Hepco Becker bags and racks are installed. The gauges are jitter free, and the rear gearing change has made the speedo dead-on accurate. The bike runs and looks great, but does have a couple of minor cosmetic issues. The battery side covers are scratched due to a stupid bungee cord mounting by me, and the right saddlebag rack has some flaking paint. I've touched it up with flat black Rustoleum spray, it's not very noticeable when uncovered, and invisible with the bag in place. There are a few minor chips in the front fender paint due to pebbles, and a couple of very minor scratches here and there, and I have the original BMW touch up paint kit if you should want to use it. When I bought the bike it had a lowered seat installed, which I replaced with a used factory R65 saddle. It fits and rides well, looks okay, but you may want to recover it, or not. The lowered seat had also scratched the rear of the tank, which is not visible with the stock seat in place. Overall, the bike's appearance is excellent. This R65 is solid, reliable, and will run as long and far as you want to ride. I'm only selling it because I recently picked up an R1100R and don't have room for both, so the R65 has to go. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or need more info. Shipping/pickup arrangements are your responsibility and at your expense, but I'm flexible and will work with you or your shipper on your schedule. A $500 deposit is due via Paypal within 48 hours of sale. The bike is being advertised locally as well, and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells. Please do not bid if you have -0- or negative feedback without contacting me first, or else your bid will be canceled. Thanks for looking.
