1977 Trans Am 400 L78 engine automatic transmission Starlight Black Redthorn interior I will do my best to give you the bad the ugly and the good.I will also send video just text me. I recently bought this car thinking it would need body work and a paint job and a few minor issues. Turns out the passenger rear frame rail is rotted at the rear leaf spring location up by the back bumper;hard to see up there.It is approximately a foot of rust but it appears the rest of the rail is good.Driver side looks to be good but also up where the leaf spring bolts in appears to be some minor rot.The rail rot I found out is pretty common.The good news is you can buy them from several vendors for about $180.The trunk portion where the rails attach to have had some work done,Not very well work, fiberglass was used. The back panel adjacent to the trunk is also rusted at the bottom. I will include a trunk floor pan with the rails as pictured. The right passenger floor pan is rotted from a leaking heater core which was also badly patched. I have a new heater core included. The battery tray area is also rusted due to acid corrosion. The rear window was at some point removed I am guessing to reseal but not very well.A small gap was left. The paint is peeling/cracked from the bumpers.Left side of hood and roof looks like the paint was not prepped right or someone cleaned it with something that caused the paint to become flawed. I drove this car home about 15 miles;It ran excellent,drove excellent and braked excellent.All the gauges work as well as the lights.It runs and sounds excellent with recent dual exhaust replacement.The engine does not smoke. Power steering pump and hoses replaced. Master cylinder replaced. Tires are good. Interior is in great shape;no tears in the seats,headliner and visors are in excellent shape.The interior is pretty nice including the rug.The door panels are good also. NO T-TOPS NO LEAKS The car look great from 20 feet away but as you get closer you can see the flaws in the paint and all of the above mentioned. The A/C works,compressor cycles on and off and blows somewhat cold air.It would need a charge of R-12 or changed to R134.
