1965 HONDA CL77 305 ScramblerEarly Bike, Needs Restoration The 305 Scrambler hardly needs an introduction. If you are reading this ad, then you likely know the history of these bikes. Following the immediate success of Honda's CL72 250cc Scrambler and the famous Dave Ekins/Bill Robertson Tijuana to La Paz ride in March of 1962 on 250 Scramblers, Honda decided to increase the engine size and in 1965 the 305 Scrambler was born. This particular bike is an early production first year 1965 model. Being the most desirable of the CL77s, it shares several common features of the original 250-single leading shoe brakes, metal fork bottoms, and the small tail light, all of which are unique to the early bikes. CL77 production ran from 1965-1967. This motorcycle has been stored since 1984. It was parked for no other reason than lack of use. It was stored in a carport-not ideal, but at least not entirely open to the Southern California elements. It has lots of surface rust on some of the parts. The wheels are solid and did not hold water in the rims. According to the previous (2nd) owner, the motor was rebuilt sometime in the 1970s. The engine turns freely and has compression, and it shifts through the gears. No attempt has been made to start it.The engine appears to be the original, as it has a very close number to the frame, 22 numbers apart. They did not "match" from the factory, but were fairly close as these are. Frame # CL77-1012954/Engine # CL77E-1012976 I believe the bike is complete except for the air cleaners and brackets. The original brake lever is broken. The front tire is flat and will not hold air. All the rest of the hard-to-find parts are there and useable. It appears that the original color was a black frame with silver bodywork. Overall, it is an excellent candidate for a proper restoration. This motorcycle is sold on a bill of sale.
