And while the trend may have started with big block cars, their small block siblings are beginning to command equally serious money. As with all Corvettes, the key to value is authenticity. And, from its original, 327 cubic inch L79 V8 to its correct silver over silver color combination, this 2-owner Sting Ray stays true to its roots in almost every way. If you're in the market for an impressive C2 that looks good, drives great and can hold its own on the show field, they don't get much better than this! BODYWORK/TRIM Bolted together at GM's storied St. Louis manufacturing facility in the summer of 1966, this slick Vette is the kind of cool classic that you can look at and virtually sense top-notch caretaking. Never parked and forgotten about, the car was originally sold to a nurse who lived in Erie, Pennsylvania. After several years of cruising in the summer and garaging in the winter, that nurse decided to pass the car to its second and current owner. And in 1992, still solid and well-kept, this Chevy benefitted from a detailed, body-on restoration that was completed by Flashback Vintage & Classic Automobile Restoration of West Chicago, Illinois. That reboot founded a smooth and solid profile under doors, lids and tops that were adjusted to better-than-factory fit. And that fit glows through correct Silver Pearl 2-stage that's been sanded and buffed to a stellar shine. ENGINE Tilt this Corvette's lightweight hood and you'll find an original, 327 cubic inch L79 V8 that hangs a familiar 3858174 casting number behind a correct "HT" suffix stamp and matching partial VIN. Introduced as a formidable companion for street prowling Sting Rays, this high performance small block twists factory-stated 10 to 1 compression into 350 factory-rated horses. At the top of the spry mill, a polished air cleaner funnels wind in to a correct Holley carburetor that's threaded onto fresh stainless fuel lines. Below that juice box, a familiar Winters intake perfectly complements finned Corvette valve covers. At the back of that intake, chrome-cased ignition shoots spark past correct exhaust manifolds via AC-Delco-Packard wires. And at the front of those manifolds, a Harrison-branded radiator cycles coolant through pliable Gates hoses and authentic tower clamps. Naturally, brilliant Chevy Orange paint coats the engine from its clean oil pan all the way to its polished oil filler and, as always, looks great against GM's Satin Black bay. As expected, correct textures and decals are present and accounted for. And details like an era-correct alternator, a familiar Harrison expansion tank and a tagged Delco battery ensure this Chevy runs every bit as good as it looks. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Flip this Vette upside down and you'll find a solid, no-hit chassis that's in good shape and, not surprisingly, still bears a striking resemblance to how it rolled off the assembly line. Behind the 327, an original Muncie 4-speed hangs a familiar 3885010 casting number and Muncie (P) assembled on July (07) 15th (15) build stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. At the ends of the car, a requisite double A-arm front and independent rear suspension is completely sorted down to its tough JRS leaf, standard manual steering and lucid KYB shocks. Above those sturdy bones, clean floor tubs, which look factory fresh in every way, ride on a straight, Satin Black frame. At the corners of those floors, standard disc brakes mix good handling characteristics with quick and solid stops. At the edges of those brakes, old school side-pipes disperse a fantastic soundtrack. And aluminum, turbine-style wheels twist 215/70R15 Goodyear Regatta whitewalls around patriotic knock-off spinners. INTERIOR Open this Chevy's tossable doors and you'll find a correct Silver interior that's a nice assimilation of clean components. Seating comes courtesy of firm vinyl thrones that are framed in straight stainless trim. From the driver's perch, stock gauges bleed onto their bordering panels in a march toward a quartz-movement clock, a Delco AM/FM radio and an aluminum-trimmed glove box. Below that dash, a shallow console founds a small shifter on fade-free carpet, which is protected by monochromatic, "CORVETTE" branded floor mats. At the sides of that rug, stainless-trimmed door panels hang color-keyed inserts amid stylish chrome hardware. In front of the driver, a satin-spoke steering wheel spins a faux wood rim around a brilliant cross-flag emblem. And behind the passengers, a carpeted storage compartment boasts sizable Pioneer speakers.
