Mercedes-Benz: 300-Series Turbo Diesel Wow, the classic 300D Turbo Diesel, the Mercedes that made a hit amongst Taxi drivers throughout all of Europe! They run forever and this one is no exception. It's truly the perfect drive and restore as you go car, because she starts (new battery) right up (don't forget to watch the glow plug before starting!), runs strong, stops perfectly, shifts without hesitation and handles like you're driving on a cloud. In addition, it can be plated, registered and insured as an antique car (25 years), which will save you hundreds of dollars each year. The body is beautiful with only minor scratches and dings and hardly any rust anywhere. I did take a picture of one wheel well where I could find any surface rust at all. The interior is gorgeous with nice leather and burled wood accents. There is some minor cracking on the sides of the seat bottoms and one on the dash. All of the dash gauges function properly, as well as the power windows and locks. What's really impressive is the sunroof works flawlessly and has no leaks! The undercarriage is all intact and the car is very solid. I'm hoping that someone will consider taking it to the next level, as the car also comes with documented evidence of it's origin from Memphis, TN and the coveted maintenance booklet with documented evidence of it's pampering. It also has the original protecto plate, warranty booklet, Becker radio pamphlet, cruise control operation card and climate control card. That written, the car will need attention to the back muffler (in trunk), one side of the rear bumper (needs to be welded back in place) and vacuum issues (doesn't always shut off right away). Interestingly, the car sounds fine without the muffler (not loud at all) and all three items don't impact the drivability of the car. So, if you want to enter into the Mercedes-Benz class with only a starting bid of $1,500, I don't think you'll find a better place to start. Please keep in mind that this is a no reserve auction and your bid is a legally binding agreement to purchase the vehicle. If you make a bid, I'll assume that you've already kicked the tires, asked the significant other and have funds available. Also, ask any and all questions before making a bid, as I want to make sure you know everything you need to before making your decision.
