1966 BMW R50/2 No Reserve auction... the winner takes it!Stunning Concours Quality Bike, Near 100pt, Restored by Meticulous Aircraft Mechanic, Matching Numbers, Original Factory Pinstriper's Initial Still Intact Under Tank, Runs and Rides Excellent, 1 Kick Bike. This 1966 BMW R50/2 is one of the best restorations of any motorcycle you'll ever see. It was fully and comprehensively restored in Chicago by an airplane mechanic very familiar with these bikes. He was smart enough to recognize the original initial still intact underneath the tank from the person than pinstriped it at the factory. It was taped over for the repaint of the tank and can still be seen. The frame was powder coated and most of the original fasteners retained. It starts easily on one kick even after sitting for a while, and it runs extremely well. There are less than 500 miles on the restoration. Taking the dipstick out and peering inside reveals a brand new motor. Both the motor and transmission were both fully rebuilt, since the bike had a ground up restoration. The bike holds the perfect, factory recommended "tick over", an extremely low idle. While many people look for the R60 or R69S, real enthusiasts know that the R50 is a better bike. As the displacement increased, the bikes vibrated more. The R50 is so smooth going down the road, and is a real pleasure to ride. The only things keeping it from being a true 100 point bike are a few nearly invisible touchups and a non-noticable in the rear fender on the right hand side of the bike from where the dual seat was previously installed (pictured.) This bike is GORGEOUS.The bike comes with a New Hampshire registration (they do not issue titles) and a bill of sale transferred properly through the collector I bought it from. Why am I selling? I collect rare motorcycles, but don't ride. This is a once-in-a-lifetime motorcycle, but I have my eyes on a vintage Porsche....................It's going to -kill- me when I say goodbye to this rare bike. Note: the motorcycle currently is currently being showcased as a collector's piece. Because it hasn't been driven in 6 months, the battery is dead. This is obviously very minor, but I wanted to mention it. NO RESERVE — winner takes it!
