Vehicle Detail
This is an actual GTO and not a clone. I tried to get documentation from PHS but unfortunately this VIN is not in their archives. Here’s the quote from their email: ‘We received your order for info on your 65 GTO. However we do not have this car in our records. With millions of cars one gets missed being archived once in a while. So we can't tell you anything more about your car. PHS ‘ My confidence is 100% this is an actual GTO. This comes from the information on the accessory tag. Cars manufactured in Pontiac, Michigan were better documented than cars manufactured at other locations. These cars carrying a code of ‘5N’ are actual GTO’s. Here’s a quote from one of the better books on GTO history: ‘Group 5 N = GTO option 1964-1965 (PON/KC only) O = décor group-LeMans only W = retractable seat belts 1964-1965 Y = custom seat belts Z = seat belt delete (1964 Pontiac Plant) The Pontiac, Michigan and the Kansas City, MO cars were far heavily coded relative to the options on the vehicles‘. The car has no motor or transmission and the steering column is not correct for the year (it’s only in there so I can move the car around). I have all the other parts for the car including chrome and glass. The one exception, I don’t have the front window. I’ve included pictures of the major stuff. If there is something specific you don’t see let me know and I’ll try to send you a picture of that item. Here are a few notes to the work that has already been done. The frame has been blasted and repainted. New frame to body bushings have been installed. Front disk brake kit added. New power brake vacuum assist master cylinder. Front and rear torsion bars have been installed. The car sits 2 inches lower now do to new lowering springs. All rust has been repaired. The floor, trunk floor, and rear quarters have been replaced. The welds need a little more smoothing before it goes to body and paint. I did not do the body work. It was already complete when I found the car. As you can see in the pictures a new interior set is included which contains the seat covers and door cards. The Rally I wheels and tires are new. From the Accessory Data Plate options listed we can see the car when new had a turquoise interior with turquoise exterior paint. The optional equipment included an automatic transmission, radio, GTO package, and retractable seat belts. The car was assembled the last week of June, 1965. I’m selling the car because the person who had committed to doing the project with me has backed out. Guess his wife was not on board. There is no title. The car has sat for decades before it was rescued and the body work was started. I did have the police department run the VIN before I brought the car home. None of their national databases showed the car to be stolen or salvaged. Getting a title can be fairly easy depending on your State/County. Here all I needed to do is arrive with a drivable vehicle for the DMV to do a safety inspection and a VIN check. I’ll need a deposit within 48 hours of the auction close. Thank you for taking time to look at this great car. Contact me with any questions you may have. Let’s give this classic a great new home.
