Please read carefully, I will try to describe all I know about the car as accurately as I can: This BMW would be a great project car or a good parts car. It is the first 1/2 of the 1999 model, which I learned from the very pricey transmission selector switch that was replaced. This is my son's car, which he hastily purchased and when he found out that he can not afford to keep it up, he purchased another car and he left the BMW at my place. Last time my son used the BMW was on a 1 hour trip out of town in Fall of 2014, the car overheated with the coolant overflowing. This required an installation of new radiator, radiator cap, hoses, water pump, thermostat and belts. I read on www, that these engines are susceptible to head warpage when overheated, please keep this in mind as the leaky head gasket is possible, pressure test was not done to verify this. Unfortunately the car sat unused after that. I would start it about once a month and let it idle for about an hour, so everything gets warmed up and lubricated and the battery gets recharged. The car received the following maintenance/repairs while it was in use for the limited time: NEW SPARKPLUGS, NEW SPARKPLUG BOOTS, NEW TRANSMISSION SELECTOR SWITCH [solved occasional eratic shifting] NEW DISC PADS ALL AROUND NEW RADIATOR, radiator cap and Hoses NEW ACCESSORIES BELTs NEW WATER PUMP NEW THERMOSTAT+HOUSING NEW AIR FILTER The tires have 60%+ of thread on them. The problems that I am aware of: Unfortunately I was not able to start it since November. It cranks, however does not start. If gas is filled more then 1/2 the tank the gas will leak. The headliner cloth is coming off on the back rear pilar. Windshield has a horizontal thermal crack. Tachometer does not work. There is no spare tire, the BMW tool kit is also missing. The car is sold as is , where is, no warranties impliead or otherwise. The buyer is responsible for the transport of the car. The NADA "Rough Trade In" value is $1,750. My son requested a duplicate title for the car, unfortunately as it is over 15 year old, the DMV will not issue a title. We will use the DMV forms to complete the ownership transfer for the vehicle. Please note that the speedometer tamper dot is on that dash. I have no knowledge of the reason why it is on.
