Vehicle Detail
I am selling this 1958 Karmann Ghia coupe because my financial conditions force me to. This restoration project has documentation all the way back to original German bill of sale in Trier, West Germany dated 3 January 1958. Still has original owner's manual in blue-gray plastic folder. This is a US spec car made in late November 1957. Chassis #27001. It came with European bumpers with no over-riders. Original color is Brilliant Red. Second owner had customized it with later engine and transmission plus other changes. I purchased back from another buyer the car's second 1200cc motor, the engine # is penciled in in owner's manual and matches, and original split-case transmission for $500. As the photos show, this car has suffered significant collision damage in the front end and corrosion. I have replacement sheet metal for under the nose, outer rockers, and some for the rear quarters under the tail lights. For the rusted battery tray area in engine compartment, I have the battery tray area from a 1966 Karmann Ghia. Front bumper is complete and correct. There are enough parts to build a correct rear bumper, car came with a 1970-1971 rear bumper. Engine decklid is incorrect, from a 1970-1974 Karmann Ghia. All glass is original except for the windshield, no windshield is included in sale. Since this is an antique vehicle, it is exempt on mileage. This sale includes a new wiring harness, reproduction sharp edge side trim, and a reproduction front trunk liner. There are plenty of original parts that I removed that are now stored in bins. This vehicle is local pick-up only. If buyer hires a shipper the price will probably run between $500 and $1,000, this is only an estimate. A down payment of $500 is due within 48 hours of auction end. There is no reserve on this Karmann Ghia coupe. Preferred payment method is PayPal. If you have any questions please contact me. Thank you for looking. This is a restoration project looking for a good home.
